“I’m going to get dressed,” he muttered. “And let Ilsa know what’s about to go down.” He glanced at the phone. “And do not use that phone again.”

“I won’t.” I laughed as he walked out of the study, leaving me alone with my thoughts. My shoulders slumped, and I was in desperate need of another nap, but now that Gavril was coming, I would have plenty of time to sleep later on.

My heart hammered in my chest as I pushed myself out of the chair, wiping my damp palms on the borrowed leggings I was wearing. Roman wasn’t going to attack Gavril, and I would consider it a peace offering for now. But in the future, I could be looking at my husband attacking my best friend’s husband.

No, I wasn’t going to think like that. Ilsa would feel the same way about the men fighting, and we would do all that we could not to make it happen.

For now, I needed to concentrate on Gavril coming and the war that I was going to help with, whether he liked it or not. We were going to be a team from now on, and he wasn’t going to send me away ever again.

Until Jon was found, I wasn’t safe anywhere but at his side.

Swallowing hard, I moved out of the study and back up the stairs to the borrowed room to get ready for Gavril’s arrival.

Ilsa met me at the top of the stairs, her hair still mussed from sleep and her wrapper barely covering her bulging belly. “So, it’s true? You married him?”

I nodded, not feeling guilty about it at all. “I did.”

She pulled me into a tight hug, and tears gathered in my eyes as I hugged her back, so glad to finally have everything out in the open and be back with my bestie. “It’s going to be okay,” she stated. “We are stronger than this, whatever this is between our husbands. They will underestimate us.”

I let out a strangled laugh. “They really don’t know what they have gotten themselves into, do they?”

Ilsa pulled back, her own cheeks wet with tears. “No, they don’t, not at all.”

We shared a smile between us before she hooked her arm in mine, leading me toward my bedroom. “Come on. I can’t wait to meet your baby daddy.”

The laughter between us felt good, and I leaned into her touch. Ilsa was just as much my family as Gavril was, and I wasn’t about to give either of them up. “I’m afraid he’s just like yours.”

Ilsa rolled her eyes. “Well then, he should be easy to get along with. Two brooding alpha males who think with the head between their legs instead of the one on their shoulders. God, Naomi. What were we thinking?”
