She was sure of it.
Arriving at her bedroom, she went straight to the bathroom, humming to herself as she turned on the hot water to the shower. She didn’t waste any time, removing her clothes and stepping into the shower.
The moment she was beneath the hot water, she tilted her head back and gave a sigh of relief.
It felt good.
She quickly washed her body and between her thighs. With her hair already wet, she quickly shampooed her hair, and after rinsing, she turned the water off. Grabbing a towel, she stepped out of the shower. She took another towel to wrap up her hair, heading into the bathroom.
She went to the closet and quickly rummaged through the clothes, settling on a dress with a cardigan. Before she left, she picked out a couple of items of underwear, lifting them against her body and then moving back into the bedroom.
She placed them on the bed and frowned when she caught sight of a single file laying on the bed.
Had Roman been back to the bedroom?
Reaching for the file, she frowned when she caught sight of the title of the orphanage her father had been investing in for years. The kids.
She opened it immediately and sat on the edge of the bed, reading through the few documents that were there. They weren’t adoption documents though.
Alex frowned as she looked at birth certificates. There were exactly fifteen certificates, but each one she looked at, she turned over, and there were other names on the back. Names she recognized because they had been at her wedding.
Under all the documents was a sheet. A printed-out copy of the children who had been there before, their adoption status, and their real parents’ names.
The kids were … she couldn’t bring herself to even say it, nor think it.
After pulling off her towel, she put on the dress, needing to confront Roman about this.
Was that why he was willing to adopt those kids? They were part of his family?
Did her father know?
Had this been a plot from the start, and how could anyone give up their kid, especially if they knew who it was?
With her dress on, Alex left her cardigan and grabbed the file, determined to get an explanation for all of this. Her heart pounded as she made her way down toward the main office, and then she froze as she heard raised voices coming from the study.
The door was partially open.
Had someone left it that way?
How could this be possible?
“We don’t have time for games, son. Alex needs to fall in love with you and give you children. I allowed you to have that fucking adoption process. Now you give me what I want,” Lucas said.
“Alex is falling in love with me, but it is going to take time. As for … the other, I’m working on it.”
“Working on it. The key to getting a woman pregnant, Roman, is to fuck her. Not to give her fifteen reasons to be exhausted, or are Antonio, Marlo, and Cash supposed to be the ones providing me with an heir?” Lucas asked.
Alex covered her mouth, feeling sick.
She had been taken for a fool. A big, stupid fool.
Of course, Roman would never fall for her. There was no way any of this was real.
How could it be?
Pain shot through her chest and tears filled her eyes.
They’d had sex. She had given herself to a liar.
