Chapter Four

SEBASTIAN

Silence fills the car as Mason drives us to the one place I can think of that Grace might have gone. I was hardly in the right mental state to drive, not to mention I’d left my keys upstairs.

Instead of coming with us, Easton went back to the warehouse to ensure everything was being taken care of properly. Truthfully, I’d been surprised he’d shown up at all after what he had done. We’ve had our fair share of fights in the past, even a couple that turned physical when we were younger, except the tension between us now is at a level I’ve never experienced before. Then adding Mason into the mix, bringing Easton along wouldn’t have been good for anyone. Also, if I’m right and Grace is there, how would she react to seeing him? I’m still not sure exactly what happened with them and how they got to the warehouse, but with how skittish she’d appeared on the security footage, I didn’t want to risk him being there.

What the hell was it about Grace that had Easton so wound up? Why was he so aggressive with Mason? We’ve never seen everything eye to eye, especially when it comes to her, but this was getting out of hand.

Easton doesn’t know all the details of her past. Fuck, neither do I. I’m not sure it would make a difference to him, though. What the fuck did he think was going to happen by bringing her there? He had to have known that I’d lose it as soon as I found out. There’s no way he could have thought that I’d actually have hurt her or letanyonefucking else touch her to get the answers he thinks she’s hiding.

“She needs to go, Sebastian.”He’d said those words a week ago after slapping a bunch of her photographs on my desk. Was that his plan? I doubt he intended for her to run out of the warehouse, but I’m sure he counted on me being too distracted to notice she was there. Maybe he thought after seeing what we were doing, she would leave on her own, passport or not. As of tonight, our deal is done, though, so why the fuck would he have bothered? Could it really have been about trying to get answers?

All I know is something has to change, friendship or not. Otherwise, Easton and I are going to have a big fucking problem.

“Why would she have come here?” Mason asks with a frown as he pulls up outside the main entrance to Obsidian.

“Turn down there,” I say, indicating to the small street not far from where we’ve stopped whilst ignoring his question. He might not have reacted the way I thought to what I told him about Ian, though I feel like he might have a few more words to say if he knew exactly why Grace had been staying with me.

“Sebastian, if I’m going to help, you need to talk to me,” Mason says, his voice growing more irritated.

“I didn’t ask for your help.” Mason being here has only made everything more complicated.

You wouldn’t even know any of this was happening if it wasn’t for him.Shit.

“It’s just a hunch,” I say before throwing the passenger door open and slamming it behind me.

A moment later, a door shuts behind me. “Sebastian,” Mason grits out as his footsteps sound behind me.

After a few seconds of standing at the door with nothing happening, I lose my patience. My fists pounding on the steel door echoes through the night, drowning out Mason’s steps. “Open the fucking door, Hale,” I yell, staring into the camera above the door with its little red blinking light. Even though the main club is closed, I know he’ll be here. He always is. When there’s still no sign of action on the other side, I slam my fists into the metal again, the reverberation making my knuckles throb.

Maybe I should have just gone through the front. Although if Grace is here, I doubt she’d be anywhere I could access through the main club or even the VIP bar that’s separate from the club. Lucas’ office is in a section of the building that’s completely blocked off and there’s no getting in unless he wants you to.

“You might not have asked for my help, but I’m here,” Mason says, grabbing my shoulder and turning me to him. “So I suggest you start letting me in on whatever the hell is going on because I’m not leaving until I know that girl is safe.”

Before I can respond, the sound of the metal lock opening cuts through the brief moment of silence. The door opens to reveal one of Hale’s regular security.Of course, it had to be the biggest bastard he has.Instead of the warm-enough greeting I got last time, he crosses his arms over his chest, the visible part of his tattoos shifting as he does.

“Where is she?” I ask, barely containing my frustration. The fact that I’m staring down Hale’s stony-faced security without being let in is enough for me to assume something is going on.

Maybe it’s the fact you were yelling and banging on his door.

He doesn’t answer me—his feet still firmly planted in the doorway. I should probably take them opening the door at all as a positive, except right now, anything other than seeing Grace has my hands fisting at my sides and my jaw clenching. Without thinking—or caring—about the consequences, I step towards the guy standing in my way.

Before I can do something stupid, footsteps echo through the hallway, and the big guy shifts to reveal Lucas himself, and I’m forced back from the door as he exits the building.

“Where’s Grace?” I ask, my gut screaming at me that she’s close by.

“That’s not much of a greeting, Sebastian, considering it’smydoor you were bashing on,” Lucas says, stopping just outside the doorway as his security moves back into position behind him, blocking the entrance.

“Where the fuck is she, Hale? I know she’s here,” I grit out, two seconds away from losing control.

Lucas’ expression darkens as he stands before me in his pristine suit. “I’ve never had a problem with you, Sebastian, but don’t think for a second that I won’t put you in your place. I allow you to run your business in this city, but I can take it away in a second.”

I grit my teeth to stop myself from saying something that will likely get me hurt or worse. If there’s one person in this city not to fuck with, it’s Lucas Hale, but I don’t know how to calm myself down when Grace is missing and likely inside this building.

“There’s something we need to discuss,” he says, his gaze finding mine.

“Unless it’s about Grace, I don’t want to hear it.”
