“You don’t know what you’re talking about,” he hisses at me, keeping one eye on Shadow. “But you wouldn’t dare say anything to Sebastian because that means telling him whoyouare. And if he doesn’t already know, it means you’re keeping it from him.” He smirks darkly. “Do you really think he’ll keep you after that? The little whore of the man who had his beloved parents killed.”

His words hit their mark, and I suck in a breath, my fingers clutching Shadow’s fur.

“What the hell is going on?” Sebastian asks as he comes down the hall, Easton one step behind him.

“You say anything about me,” Vincent whispers low enough that Sebastian wouldn’t be able to hear. “Forget Sebastian. I’ll tellhimwhere you are. What do you think he’d give me for bringing you back to him?” he asks, his eyes raking over me again, causing bile to burn the back of my throat

Shadow growls again, and my gaze flicks between Vincent and Sebastian as his long strides eat the distance between us.

“Nothing,” Vincent says, louder this time. “Your girl doesn’t know how to watch where she’s going.”

Sebastian doesn’t respond. As soon as he reaches our position, he grabs the back of Vincent’s jacket and pulls him away from me before pushing him down the other hallway. “Get the fuck out, Vincent, while you can still fucking walk.”

Vincent stumbles before straightening and fixing his suit.

“Now,” Sebastian says as Vincent glares at him, and just before he turns, his glare moves to me. I don’t miss the warning in his eyes. Sebastian curses under his breath as Vincent leaves and pulls me into him. “Are you okay?”

Not trusting my voice just yet, I nod against his chest, though as my gaze shifts, I catch the way Easton stares at me with his brows drawn low and questions I likely can’t answer floating in his green eyes.
