“What, baby?”

“How did you find me?”

“Remember how we got the list from Petrov’s house? About your father?”

I nodded.

“He doesn’t own that much property in New Mexico. It wasn’t hard to narrow down which one he would bring you to, but we weren’t completely sure.” His eyes moved over me. “Not until we got a call.”

A call?

My eyes widened as I remembered asking Roberto. I couldn’t believe he got in contact with them, and what was more, that he could.

My brow furrowed. It was nothing more than me throwing a Hail Mary, asking Roberto to find them. Men like Nikolay, Mikhail, and Damien weren’t easy to find.

So how could Roberto have found them so effortlessly and quickly?

Nikolay cupped my chin and tilted my head back until I looked at him. “What are you thinking about? Do you know the man who called us?”

I nodded. “Roberto.”

“Who’s Roberto, sweetheart?” he asked calmly. I stilled and looked at him.

Nikolay always looked volatile, but when he took on a calm demeanor, it almost felt like that pause from a snake before it attacked.

“My father’s butler. He’s the one who helped me escape the house before I met you. He waited until Father went out, and he led me through a tunnel built under our house.”

Nikolay seemed surprised at that information. The tunnel wasn’t common knowledge among outsiders. That made sense. It just surprised me since I had come to think of these three men as invincible. It was almost hard to reconcile the image I had of them in my head as … humans.

“Do you think he’s in danger?” I asked quietly, feeling my eyes burn. I couldn’t bear the thought of Roberto being hurt. He’d sacrificed so much for me. He’d risked so much.

Nikolay let out a small sigh. “I don’t know, sweetheart. I’m sorry. I know that’s not what you want to hear.”

I looked down at his chest, not knowing what to say, and feeling like a metal hand had my heart in a tight grip, squeezing and squeezing until it became almost too much to take.
