DAMIEN
I walked around, going through the motions.
Checking things off my mental list.
Find the traitor. Get the bomb. Save Catalina.
Perhaps I had gotten too cocky in my own power … my own mortality.
I didn’t think Luca would have been able to survive me.
At the time, I figured he would be disabled and disfigured if he did. I’d made sure of that.
But now he had Catalina. And I knew by himself, he wouldn’t have been to get her out of there.
He shouldn’t have been able to get inside the penthouse in the first place.
Not without help.
I took the elevator down to the security room.
The head of security, Gerald, was a man in his early forties. He stood and greeted me.
“Was there anything unusual after I left this afternoon?” I asked.
“No, Mr. Vasiliev.”
“Who came up to the penthouse?” I asked quietly.
He swallowed and took a step back before he noticed what he was doing and stopped. “Um, just Leo.”
“Show me,” I said.
He nodded and pulled the security footage up. Sure enough, I could see Leo getting on the elevator.
With Luca Monroe.
“Did you not see him bring in a strange man to my place?”
Gerald looked around nervously. “I assumed you approved him, since Leo was on the approval list.”
My fist clenched.
Fucking Leo.
Yet I couldn’t think of a reason why he had done it.
Leo didn’t seem like the kind of man to be tempted by greed or a promise of power.
Then it was for revenge.
On whom, though?
Me or my brothers?
Anger became a red haze in my eyes. I moved without thinking, pulling my arm back and punching Gerald in the face.
He fell backward with a cry.
