He cried pathetically.
“Where the fuck do you think you’re going?” I asked, looking down at him.
“There’s no harm done. Your woman is safe. Your dogs are safe, so let me go.”
I leaned down until our faces were mere inches from each other. “My dogs?”
His skin paled. I pulled him up. “You took away my weapons, but I don’t need them when I can just kill you with my bare hands.”
“Pleas—”
He choked as my arms wrapped around his neck, squeezing. I loved the way his face changed color.
His eyes flashed as his legs flailed.
A rock hit my shoulder, and I let Luca go, ignoring the way he was gasping for breath.
Someone clapped from my side.
I slowly turned and looked at Leo, standing there. Even with all the blood, I could tell he was smiling. My eyes narrowed on him.
“You’re one tough motherfucker to kill, aren’t you?” he said. “I gotta say, I’m impressed with how everything’s played out so far.”
“Don’t get too starry-eyed, sweetheart,” I responded. “You’ll be really impressed when I’m done with you.”
He laughed. “Sorry, Damien, but I don’t plan on dying by your hand today.”
“Tough. Sometimes we don’t get what we want.”
The car that was tailing Luca finally came into view. Kirill had been following behind me from a distance until he was sure we got the bomb disabled.
Leo noticed the car too, but then he did what I was not expecting. He let out a loud whistle, and suddenly, there were cars squealing up from all directions. Men came out of the cars. I took them in, from the familiar faces to the familiar skull wearing a three-point crown symbol on their jacket.
The Blood Nation Sinner.
A local gang that barely made a blip on my radar.
Not now, though.
They were working with a traitor.
I saw Kirill slowing down the car. He wouldn’t show himself. Not now. He was going to get the message back to Mikhail and Nikolay, because right now, I was outnumbered twenty to one.
There was no way in hell I was getting out of this.
They all jumped me at once.
The last thought I remembered having was that I was gonna get home to my beloved pet, no matter what.
