EPILOGUE
DAMIEN
I came aroundin a dark room.
Chains wrapped around my legs. My feet dangled several inches from the ground while my arms hung from the ceiling.
Wetness pooled around my eyes, and I didn’t know if it was blood or sweat.
Or maybe both.
I had long ago lost track of time.
And the feeling in my limbs.
Everything hurt, yet I felt nothing at all.
Shock must be setting in, and I knew they were far from done with me.
They had just gotten started.
I peeked my eyes open and took in my surroundings.
There was nothing here I could use to help me escape.
The door opened, and a large shadow fell through from the light. I didn’t bother looking up.
The taste of blood coated my tongue, and my eyes could barely open into tiny slits.
But there was still light at the end of the tunnel.
Soft brown eyes haunted my dreams and thoughts, lending me strength.
I wasn’t going to give up until I saw those eyes, even if it was for one last time.
I vowed it.
