Faking It with the Frenemy - Page 39

She must’ve taken a lot of acting classes. She’s been in L.A. for a while, after all. It pisses me off that she went this far to fuck with me.

Dad is wrong. Geneva isn’t the evil werefox—Kim is. And she’s after both my liver and my sanity. But I’m not going down without a fight. Revenge can be a two-way street.

“Well? I’m waiting,” she says, tapping her fingers against her hips. “Hurry up, because I don’t have all night, and apparently I’ve got to arrange yet another date for you.”

You mean yet another disaster. She keeps on talking. God! The need to shut her up before I shake her teeth loose surges through me. I grab her and push my mouth against hers, bracing myself to hate it. After all, this isn’t the girl I fell for in Corn Meadows. She’s like a lizard’s belly now. This kiss is going to put her in a box labeled “exes I never want to think about again.” And most importantly, it’ll mess her up, make her wonder why. Why I’m kissing her, why I’m holding her and why I’m not throttling her like a rational human being would.

But she doesn’t feel especially reptilian. Her lips are warm and soft, and her taste reminds me of a cherry-flavored gelato I had once. Lush, sweet…addictive.

My blood roars in my ears, saying more.

She doesn’t push me away, but goes absolutely still. Not even her breath tickles my skin, and I realize she’s in shock…and at a point where she hasn’t yet decided if she’s going to kick my ass or participate. Her mouth stays sealed, and I flick my tongue over it, tasting more of her. Every cell in my body trembles for her. We’re on a precipice, the danger and more in the connection of our lips, like w

e’ve both been waiting for this moment.

Suddenly her mouth turns soft and opens, her hand resting on my arm. The reaction hits me like a jolt of electricity—something that’s been missing since forever. A quick intake of breath—hers—heats my blood until it’s racing like lightning.

I slip my tongue between her teeth, and hers strokes it, tentative and hot at the same time. There’s a hint of gin and vermouth that laces with her cherry flavor, and I feel like I’m drowning in a vat of liquor. My skin feels so tight, the need swelling so large inside me, that I feel like it’s going to split. And her scent isn’t helping. She smells unbelievably enticing.

I pull her closer, my blood like molten lava. My mind is no longer capable of thinking logically, just feeling and acting on instinct. She makes a small noise in the back of her throat. I’m already hard, pressed against her. She presses even closer, the feel of her breasts against my chest intoxicating. My cock throbs. I can feel my control slipping.

Suddenly, a warm body squeezes itself between our legs. She takes a step back, just as I move to see what’s interrupting us. It’s the dog she brought with her. It looks up at us, thumping its tail.

Shit.

I shake my head to clear it. Hormones fog my brain like I’m a teenager again. What the hell? I got way too involved there. Not part of the plan.

Kim stares at me, her caramel eyes dark and unblinking. Slowly, she brushes her lips with just the tips of her fingers. I see the muscles in her neck flex, and she breathes out hard.

“Wow. That was…”

Hot. Lush. Sweet. Not enough.

“…inappropriate,” she says finally. She inhales, then finger-combs her hair. “Look, I have you set up with another heiress tomorrow night,” she says, her words measured. “So turn around and go get some sleep.”

Then she shuts the door behind her, taking the dog with her.

That kiss was supposed to mess with Kim’s mind…but it doesn’t feel like that’s what happened.

Chapter Nineteen

Kim

Why didn’t I stop Wyatt?

I should’ve slapped him when he laid his mouth on mine. Or at least shoved him away.

But instead I stood there like an idiot, unable to think as his lips softened on mine, like a butterfly alighting on a new blossom.

My lips tingle at the memory. Worse, my breasts are tingling, because I’m thinking about how strong and solid his chest felt against mine. I’m not going to even think about how what’s between my legs is tingling because of how long and thick he was against my belly.

Ack! It’s shameful I’m reacting this way. Shameful!

Humiliating, too. It’s been over twelve hours, and I shouldn’t be feeling anything.

And Champ isn’t helping. Every time I see him I think of how he came between us, which reminds me of the kiss, which…

Argh! It’s sad that a dog can indirectly make me horny.
