“I hope he stops being upset soon. I wanted to apologize to him this morning, but I just couldn’t get the words out. When I ran into him, he looked like he wanted to kill me.”
“Yeah, he isn’t too happy right now,” I say, trying to inject some sympathy into my voice.
“When you see him, can you tell him I’m sorry? I’m going to apologize to him, too, and explain all this, but maybe if you lay a little groundwork he won’t bite my head off.”
“Yeah, sure.” It’s the polite thing to say, but helping Griffin and Lori make up isn’t exactly on the top of my priority list. I need to make up with him first!
Lori takes the box off my hands. “In return, I’ll give this to Griffin for you.”
I open my mouth to tell her that isn’t necessary, but change my mind. Maybe giving Lori an innocuous opening to talk to him will be a good thing. That way, he can hear from a third party that nobody thinks he’s shameful because of his parents or the fact that he inspired some new sex toys. That’ll help him calm down—and then he and I can have a conversation about us.
“Thanks, Lori. I appreciate it.”
