Chapter Seventy-Three

“You’re so good at maneuvering this giant stroller,” Sierra says as we walk along the winding path at a local park with our little babies. They love to be out and see the world, and we make it a habit to take them out for a long walk every day. Following close behind is our new bulldog puppy Winston, tail wagging hard.
Since our special-order shirts arrived, she’s in a pink one that says WORLD’S BEST MOM, and I’m in a blue one that says WORLD’S BEST DAD. Our triplets are all in onesies that read Number One. Sierra doesn’t believe in making any of our babies number two or three. And I agree. The order in which they came out isn’t important. They’re always all going to be our number ones.
“I’m a man of many talents,” I say with a small smile, then kiss her brow.
The stroller is big enough to carry our triplets—two identical boys and a girl. Dr. White said that we had three boys, so when a girl came out last, it was a huge shock for everyone.
“I think Amy feels a bit jealous that we have so many kids,” Sierra says.
“She wants another baby, but Emmett won’t give it to her.” And for good reason. Amy didn’t do well during the pregnancy and labor for their first child.
Sierra makes a noncommittal noise, but I know her well enough to recognize her I’m-plotting-something sound.
“What’s going on in your head?” I may need to warn Emmett.
“I’m just thinking that I’m enjoying this lovely stroll at this beautiful park with my awesome family.” She smiles.
My heart swells with love, just like every time she does that. It’s an automatic response, and I don’t think it’s ever going to go away.
I kiss her and thank my lucky stars while our babies coo.
