“You think I should apologise? For what? You were the one implying that I was a gold-digger. How dare—”
He holds onto my shoulders and crashes his lips to mine. Electricity surges through my bones, giving my limbs the energy I need to lift my arm and slap his face with the palm of my hand, breaking the kiss.
My hand stings, and he rubs the red mark on his cheek while moving his jaw from side to side. As I step backwards, a woman stares and a teenager smirks.
“Are you all right, love? Is this man bothering you?” A man close by asks.
Callum glares at him and, not wanting to cause any more of a scene, I nod and move into the next carriage.
Cal follows. “Steph, sit down. You can’t go anywhere else, unless you’re going to sit with the driver.” He slides into an empty seat with a table. “Please, sit with me.”
I sigh heavily and drop into a seat opposite. I don’t have the energy to fight him anymore. My chest burns. Every bone in my body is shaking, though I can’t decide if it’s rage, hurt, or a need for him.
He chews on his bottom lip in silence. I barely have the energy to feel, let alone speak.
“Sorry, Steph. You’re not a gold-digger. I was hurt. I am hurt. For fuck’s sake, I love you. Each time you’re with me, I hope you’ll stay, but each time you choose him, and it fucking riles me.”
I huff. “Save it for someone who gives a shit.”
He takes my hand in his, stroking his thumb against my skin. “You give a shit, Steph, or you wouldn’t be here.”
“Well, that was before I heard you flirting with that…that…kitty-slinger.”
“Fuck’s sake, Steph.”
“What?”
“You don’t want me, but you begrudge anyone else having me.”
I do want him though, that’s the problem.
“I’ve told you, you can have me. All of me. I’ll fucking marry you, just say YES.”
