Bishop

I’m nervous as I wait for the two of them to come out of Bishop’s dorm.More than anything, I hope Dad’s talked some sense into the man I love.I know if anyone’s able to, it’s Dad, but I’m not feeling overly confident after the way Bishop reacted when I tried to talk to him.
Dad comes out, a smile on his face.“He’s going to come find you.You might wanna go out on the back porch so that the two of you can have some privacy, but also so it doesn’t look like you’ve been waiting.”
I give him a grin and hurriedly head out to the back porch, taking the first chair I see.Quickly, I start scrolling on my phone, landing on an article that looks interesting.
I’m not sitting there for more than five minutes when the door slides open.“Hey babe,” he starts, coming to stand next to me.“Mind if I sit here?”
“You’re always welcome.”
“I’m sorry,” he starts.“So sorry about how I’ve pulled back from you, but it’s what I was taught.I’ve never had someone who accepted me for who I am without expecting something in return. In my experience, if I give something of myself to you then you’ll expect something from me.”
“That’s not how this works, at least not with us,” I remind him.
“I know and I’m sorry I reacted the way I did.Being confronted by the shit I thought I’d left behind fucked me up, but I never should’ve pushed you away.I should’ve brought you closer.”
I get up, going over to where he sits and straddling his lap.“As long as you realize that now, I’m willing to forgive you.Know in the future, I won’t be so forgiving.”I reach over, grabbing his ear and twisting.
“Got it, Lee.I won’t do this again.”
“I’m holding you to that.”
His lips capture mine and, once again, all is right in my world.
