Unbroken

I looked back at him. “What’s the problem?” He hesitated, and I felt a bolt of fear run through me. I pressed a hand to my chest. “Is it me, Leo? Have I done something?”
He shook his head once, frowning. “You know, you spoke in there about how we’re all supposed to be open—”
“Yeah?”
“Well, when were you planning on telling me you had your first kiss with Hunter?”
I froze. My eyes shot back over his shoulder at Hunter, who had shoved his hands into his pockets, looking down at the ground. Hunter had already told him?
Completely taken off guard, my lips parted as nerves ran through me. “I was planning on it,” I said, and that was true. I had nothing to hide. I would have told Leo we played catch up, but I didn’t think Leo would actually mind.
“When?” he demanded, his voice growing low and angry.
I was surprised by his reaction. I blinked at him, watching as his face grew dark. “We only did it last night, Leo. You didn’t really give me a chance—”
“Did you do it with Hunter before?” he interrupted suddenly. “How many times have you kissed him, Skye?”
What in the heck? How did I end up being the one put on the spot? I crossed my arms, feeling defensive. “Just the one time, Leo, and we only did it after hearing you kissed some rich princess on a beach. And anyway, why does it even matter so much? You got to do it!”
“I didn’twantto do it withher,” he argued, seeming conflicted.
I gave him a dry look. “Of course you did.”
“But I didn’t.”
“No one forced you.”
“It wasn’t like that!”
I shook my head, growing more upset than I should have been. “That doesn’t make any sense. You kissed a girl—”
“It meant nothing—”
“You think me kissing Hunter meant anything?”
In the back, Hunter tensed. His eyes locked suddenly with mine, and I saw a brief look of pain skirt through them. I raised my hand out at him, quickly consoling him. “I didn’t mean it like that, Hunt.”
“So, it meant something?” Leo demanded.
Oh, shit.
What was happening?
I wanted to shake my head at Leo but nod my head at Hunter.
Instead, I took a step back, feeling cornered and confused. “I don’t know what’s happening, guys.”
“Did the kiss mean anything to you or not?” Leo asked me as Hunter tentatively stared at me, waiting for my answer.
I felt my nerves grow tenfold as I admitted, “Yes, it meant something to me.”
“So, you like Hunter or something? You guys gonna be together now?”
“What?” I squeaked. “No! I mean…I like Hunter the same way I like you, Leo.”
“Who do you likemore?”
“I don’t like either of you more.”
