Was it lunacy?
Yes—and yes.
It was crazy, insane, absolutely mad and frightening and just downrightwrong. It was dangerous to have such thoughts. To put that sort of seed in one’s heart and not know what it might grow into. What was he thinking?
Leo was being risky, and he needed to stop and be realistic about this. Figuratively, he stood before a forked road and stared at both paths, knowing damn right he needed to go down the road that separated from theirs.
But when she smiled—really smiled—she lit up his life like the sun lit up the sky.
He was done for.
Had been done for the second he sat down and she leaned over to look at him.
And so, he opened his mouth, he offered them candy, he used his words to win Skye over, was patient to Hunter and his distrustful gaze; all of it would be worth it once they let their guard down and let him in.
Slow going.It would be slow going, he said to himself. It would take time and effort, but he was committed.
Over the weeks, he would catch them on the rocks. They would try to find their footing because it was an unusual crossing. They were a mismatched trio, and at times he felt like he was forcing himself in like a puzzle piece driven in too tight. But within time, they fell into a rhythm.
After all, kids were kids.
And it didn’t matter where kids came from; they shared a hunger for fun adventures.
