Unbroken - Page 182

“Because Leo wasn’t picking up—”

“That’s bullshit,” he hissed now, losing his cool. “You know it, too. You could have gotten home any other way, but you called me, and you demanded I be there. You did it because you want something.”

My lips trembled as I turned away from his stare and looked out my window, shaking my head. “No, Hunt.”

“No?”

“No.”

“You didn’t call me to fuck me—”

“No!” I shouted suddenly, glowering at him in shock. “Absolutely not, Hunter!”

He scoffed, a sour smile twisting his mouth. “You’re a fucking liar.”

I pulled my hand away, shaking now with anger, with astonishment, with…complete denial. “I’ll walk the rest of the way home.”

“Home,” he repeated, bitterly. “Go to him, Skye. Fucking go to him, like you always do.”

Heat pooled in my cheeks as I gritted, “I will, Hunter!”

Then I opened the door and stepped out, heart beating madly in my chest as I slammed it shut and walked quickly up the path. I wiped at my face, at the angry tears pooling out of me before tossing a glance over my shoulder. The truck didn’t move, the engine was still on. The jerk was just sitting there, not even chasing after me, but he had wound down the window and was lighting up a cigarette.

Un-fucking-believable.

A growl tore up my throat as I turned away and continued walking in the pouring rain. What the hell was his problem? When did things go wrong? It couldn’t have been the cabin, and it couldn’t have been from those attackers, either…

No, it was before that, he was right. Somewhere along the way, everything went to shit. The cabin was just the tipping point.

Angry heat zipped around my body, making me tremble, making me want to scream at him—

And so, I did just that.

I turned around and hurried back to the truck so I could scream at him. So I could tell him that he was wrong. Hell no did I call him tofuckhim—

Hunter was already out of the truck, the smoke tossed to the side, his hands in his pockets as he waited for me to come to him. His brows were raised as he leaned back against the front of his truck, eyeing my every move.

I stopped in front of him, my finger pointed at his face, my teeth clenched as I growled, “You think I would do that? That I would call you to use your dick? You think it’s not because I fucking miss you? No, it has to be about fucking you, Hunter—”

“Shut up,” he interrupted, tone low. “Come here, Skye.”

“Hell no, as if I’ll be anywhere near you—”

“Come here.”

“No!”

He removed his hands from his pockets and stepped to me, closing the gap between us. “Come here, Skye.”

“No,” I stubbornly retorted, folding my arms across my chest.

He took another step, his body nearly pressing into mine as he towered over me. “Come on,” he urged, softly. “You know I’m right, Skye. You called me to fuck me—”

“Stop saying that!”

“Because you can’t stop thinking about it. You’re emotional. You’re angry at me. You want to use me because I would punish you.Admit it.”

I didn’t admit anything.
