Fifty-Two

Leo

When he got to the clubhouse, Leo was unsurprised that Hunter was still in his truck, sitting idle in the parking lot. He sat unmoving in the car, his hands clenched around the steering wheel. Leo wondered if he was equally as distraught as he was. Was that why he was shut inside his truck? Did shame and disgust overwhelm him, too?

Leo parked directly behind him. There was a flicker of movement as Hunter glanced up to look at the rear-view mirror. Their eyes met, stilled, and then a few moments passed by.

The clubhouse was roaring with bodies. The pub was filled to the brim, spilling out into the streets. Laughter and music drowned the quiet night, but between the two men, the noise fell away and there was a roaring silence.

They needed to talk. This could no longer be avoided. Leo wasn’t going to leave until they settled their issues.

Hunter made the first move. He opened the door to step out, and then Leo hurried to do the same. They stood feet apart, staring each other down. Hunter looked him over, gaze stilling at his pants. Leo wondered if he could see the wet patch where Skye’s pussy was, but he must have seen it with the street all lit up, every shadow driven away by the towering lights of Brown Bay.

Hunter’s face twisted from rage to arrogance as he bit out, “Did you already know when you took her that I beat you to it?”

It wasn’t in Leo’s nature to show-off, to emphasize pride in such a toxic way, but Hunter’s words triggered him. He smiled cruelly at him, gripped his cock through his pants and said, “I had to finish what you started—”

And that was how the fight erupted.

Hunter came at him with his fists, and Leo threw him down. There it was again, two fucking idiots on the ground, fighting, taking turns to laugh delightfully.

“You sure she was wet foryou?” Hunter asked. “Because she might have still been aching for me—”

PUNCH.

Roll.

Then it was Hunter over Leo, swinging his fists as Leo laughed beneath him to say, “Did you know after she came, she still kept pushing into me? She couldn’t get enough of me, Hunt. I bet she’d have taken me again—”

PUNCH.

Roll.

PUNCH. PUNCH. PUNCH.

Fucking idiots. Immature little shits. Leo knew how ridiculous they were being. Knew there was a crowd already forming to listen to their poisonous remarks.

It wasn’t just about Skye, and they knew that, too, as they took out their aggression on one another. It was so much more than that.

It was that Leo was a perfect fucking gentleman all the time and could take care of her.

It was that Hunter was a brave fucking brute that could look fear in the eye and protect her.

One didn’t feel like he could protect her, and the other didn’t feel like he could care for her and give her all the things she deserved.

It was that one felt inferior to the other.

It was that…

God, they could see their faults so plainly around each other, and were their male egos so fragile that they couldn’t work this out?

Bunch of pussies they were, bleeding and broken, and no one dared to put a stop to it. It was clear, as their words flew out of their mouths, as their punches intentionally hit air more than flesh, that these two fuckheads needed to sort it out amongst themselves.

The crowd scattered, the punches slowed, and soon it was both men on the ground, shoulder to shoulder, staring up at the night sky as they heaved for breath.

“Hunt,” Leo panted, rubbing at his chest where the ache was.

Hunter grunted. “Don’t.”
