“You ever speak a word of your time here with us to our enemy, you become our enemy, you understand? You leave this clubhouse to go back to that Itani cunt, you are an enemy, and something very bad will happen to you because no protection of theirs will stop us from getting to you—”
“Hey,” growled Hunter, appearing at my side, his warm hand settling on my shoulder. He stared darkly at Miles. “What the fuck are you doing, Miles?”
Miles stood up and pointed a finger at me. “You brought a girl that spent the last several months living withLeo fucking Itaniinto our home.”
“Roy knows the situation,” Hunter retorted edgily. “You take your concerns to the President—”
“I know the situation,” Miles snapped. “I needed to hear it out of her own damn mouth! My question is, what the fuck areyoudoing, Hunter?”
Hunter’s face darkened as he growled, “I forbid you from ever talking to her without my fucking permission.”
“You have no power over who I speak to. You don’t outrank me—”
“I’m telling you from one man to the other,” Hunter interrupted, his voice eerily calm. “Rank has nothing to do with it.”
Miles fumed, nostrils flaring. “This is not the way, Hunter. In our code, if you can’t have her all the fucking time, she ain’t yours, and the club won’t welcome her in. You bring her in some of the time, expect the club to treat her like a whore because that’s all she’s going to be to you before she goes back to fuck that Itani filth—”
“Step down,” Hunter cut in again, rougher this time. “You step down now, Miles, before I do something—”
“Ease it,” Roy warned, looking at Hunter instead of Miles. “No warning of violence, Sav, not like this, and not to the Road Captain—”
“He’s disrespected me by coming to my girl to interrogate her about matters that don’t concern him!” Hunter angrily retorted, looking back at Roy now. “Why aren’t you tellinghimoff?”
Roy flatly replied, “I’m talking down the one I’m most concerned about.”
Miles began to round the table, and before he could edge closer to Hunter, Jesse appeared, standing between them with his arms up. “This isn’t the way. Patched members do not fight in Warlord territory—”
“Then we’ll handle thisoutside!” Miles roared. “If this little shit thinks I’m disrespecting him, I’ll fucking disrespect him out there!”
Hunter let go of my shoulder and began to pace across the pub, shouting, “Don’t keep me fucking waiting then!”
Miles threw his patch off and stormed after him.
Jesse looked to Roy. “Should we follow them?”
But Roy sat back down, bringing the beer to his lips. “Fuck them, let them be. Miles knows what he’s doing—”
“It’s all over if Sav fucks with Miles—”
“Don’t intervene,” Roy demanded stubbornly. “Should he place a hand on the Road Captain, we will punish him suitably—”
“No,” I breathed out, heart hammering in my chest. I didn’t want anyone punished, especially not when it concerned me. I hurried to my feet, needing to put a stop to this. I ran out of there, painfully aware that everyone had stopped what they were doing to watch the entire shitstorm go down.
Some of the bikers were smirking, their curious gazes latched to me as I hurried outside.Noneof them followed.Noneof them intended to stop them. In fact, their grins spread wide like they enjoyed this. I felt enraged by that as I stepped out into the cold night, finding them immediately in the parking lot. Miles was screaming all kinds of horrible things at Hunter, and Hunter stood before him, barely moving as Miles paced back and forth.
“You expect me to take the first swing?” Miles carried on. “I ain’t swinging a single fist, you little boy cunt! Try and put me down—I fucking dare you!”
But Hunter didn’t move. He stared at him, his body calm, but I knew better than to think he was. A storm brewed inside him, and I couldn’t risk him hurting another biker, especially theRoad Captain.
I stopped in front of him, grabbing his arm. “Hunt, don’t do anything, okay? Please. Not over me—”
“Go back inside,” Hunter told me, eyes pinned on Miles.
“I can’t have you getting hurt—”
Miles choked out a laugh. “Your ownbitchthinks I’ll hurt you.”
Fuck, this guy was a real piece of work. I tried not to react, and it took everything in me not to spin around and scream at him. It would only make things worse for Hunter.
