Roy smirked. “Fuck if I know. That man showed up years ago ready to bust down a brick wall with his bare fists, he had so much fucking loathing in him. But, you know, the club eases him, and no matter how many times I try and steer him to a good woman, he ain’t interested.”
“Women don’t always solve everything.”
There was a twinkle in his eye. “Don’t they?”
I bit my lip, feeling my face redden as I admitted, “I just want to be enough for Hunter.”
“And you are,” he adamantly said. “When you’rehere, that is.”
Now he stood up, looking a lot older all of a sudden when he was tired. “You gotta figure out this lifestyle thing, sweetheart, because you’re supposed to be Hunter’s other half, and that comes with responsibilities you can’t just put a pause on.”
I nodded slowly, still wrapped up in his words as he wandered off.
In fact, I’d stood there for minutes on end, glued to my thoughts, feeling my pulse quicken because…yeah, this wasn’t bad, and yeah, I did ground Hunter and, yeah, fuck Miles.
Arms suddenly wrapped around me, and a familiar scent invaded my senses. “Where are you, Nugget?”
My body sank into his hard chest as I shut my eyes at his comforting embrace. “Here. Waiting for you.”
Hunter spun me around, his giant frame enveloping me entirely. He ducked his head and swiped his mouth against mine. “I missed you, flower.”
“I missed you, too.”
“It was a long day.”
I slid my tongue along his lower lip. “Tell me all about it.”
He wrapped his hands under my thighs and picked me up. “After.”
After he took me upstairs.
After he settled me down on the bed.
After he shed my clothes and took my body against his, unleashing his pent-up need in me.
But even then, he held back and stroked my back, cocooning me in his arms as I fell asleep against him.
