“Then let me be guilty,” she laughed. “We can go anywhere, start a new life together. Since I lost my mom, it’s been just me here.”

I nodded and swept up her hand in mine.

Never had I come to terms with how stressed out I was at home; I always just pushed it down and tried to ignore it. Now, the mere suggestion of leaving gave me a sense of airiness I’d only previously experienced while flying.

“We don’t have to have a plan, we can just go,” she replied.

“Ah, fuck, I wish we’d decided this before we left the castle.”

“Hm?”

I sighed. “I have things I need to go back for. Important things. But if they catch any doubt on me, they’ll imprison me while we’re there.”

“I’ll go with you, we can keep each other safe,” she offered.

I laughed and kissed her. “They’re dragon shifters, they’re deadly,” I reminded her.

“I’m a witch, I can be deadly too,” she shot back.

I’d honestly forgotten about her magic.

What was she capable of?

“It’s better to do it sooner than later,” I said cautiously. “Although I wouldn’t mind keeping you here to myself.”

She laughed at how horny I was being at a time like this and then looked over at the clock on her stove. “Give me twenty minutes to pack, and then we can go. Now’s as good a time as ever to elope.”

She was the most incredible person I’d ever met.

I only hoped she was ready for what we were about to put ourselves through.
