I dug in my heels. This was an awful plan. What if Fenrir decided that Maddox was of no use to him? What if Fenrir wanted to consume Maddox’s power, too? I could command Maddox to stay. His soul was in my grasp, and his body was fueled by my arcana. He would do anything if I told him to.
But that wasn’t right. That wasn’t how relationships worked. Even if I’d never been in one, I still knew that making demands and ultimatums would always end poorly.
“Be safe,” was all I could say before I pulled him in for a deep kiss.
Maddox cupped the back of my head and held me close so his tongue could slip past my lips. I savored the taste of him like I might never get the chance again. Which…was a possibility.
“I wish I could go with you,” I whispered into his lips.
He shook his head. “Stay. Hel might have a plan. This could be over before the day is done.”
If only it was that easy.
