"You don't need dick pics, my wife. You can see the real thing in person at any time. Now that you’ve gotten real up close and personal with him, let's go." Colt growls the last part.

"Thanks a lot, Brice. If I wasn't already pregnant, I for sure would be after today!"

The entire time Colt is dragging her back to his truck, I belly laugh. I know I’ll have to formally apologize to the two of them later, but right now all I want is to have a cold beer with my best friend. So, I go back to my place and avoid the dagger eyes from my mom, who I'm sure has plenty of questions about what just happened. I wash up and go over to Ford’s place.

When I hit the gate I hesitate, since he's married now, and I don't know the rule of just dropping by like I used to. Sure as hell, I won't be letting myself into the house as I used to do. God knows what I might walk in on.

I'm already here, so it can't hurt to go knock on the door. Savannah answers with a big smile.

"Brice! Did I know you were coming over?" She greets me with a hug and another smile before stepping to the side and letting me in.

"Not unless you’re a mind reader. I'm sorry I didn't think about calling until I was already at the gate."

"Nonsense, you’re always welcome. At least you knocked, Lilly still refuses to."

I laugh. "One day your sister will walk in on something she doesn't want to see and then she will always knock."

"I doubt it. Ford is down at the barn. We just had the cutest little horse born this morning. Please tell me you’ll stay for dinner. I’ve cooked enough for twenty."

"I'd like that."

"Okay, now off with you. Tell Ford dinner is in an hour."

Going out the back door to the barn, I find Ford with one of the ranch hands leaning over a stall. As I walk up, he turns to greet me.

"Hey, check out this little guy," he says as the ranch hand leaves to give us some privacy.

In the stall are the foal and his mother. The little guy is walking around on wobbly legs, and I know this is a moment I want to share with Kayla. So, I take out my phone and take a few photos and even a video of the foal trying to walk. But then I hesitate and don't send them. With a sigh, I tuck my phone back into my pocket.

"Come on, I have some beers in the office, and you can tell me what's on your mind," Ford says.

"That obvious?"

"That, and your mom called when you left the house and figured you were heading this way."

Following Ford to the office he has set up in the barn, I sit on the leather couch and take the beer he offers. Then in the interest of not wasting his time, I tell him everything, down to Sage's conversation and my dick pic comments which have him rolling.

"I'm surprised Colt didn't punch you."

"Yeah, me too." I take the last swig of my beer, and Ford is right there to replace it.

"You probably don't want to hear it, but I agree with Sage about letting her know you still miss her and about avoiding the dick pics."

I pull out my phone and stare at the pictures I just took, then pick one and send it to Kayla.

Me: This little guy was just born this morning, and I was wishing you were here to share it with me.

Then I hit send and leave it be. Ford and I get to talking and then go in for dinner, but I never get a reply back from her.

I guess I have my answer. The bridge from Dallas to Rock Springs is just too big to cross.
