My eyes lock to hers, just in time to watch as she falls, her face clammy and pale as she clutches onto her side. Her knees hit the grass, her body slumping heavily to the hard ground as she brings her hands away, each one of her fingers coated with blood.
She looks back up at me in fear, realization dawning on both of us as I start to double back, and not a moment later, she fades away, her eyes closing as her soft murmured plea cuts straight through to my soul, breaking every last part of me. “Don’t let me die.”
