First, though, I needed her to say yes to going out with me. The phone rang in my ear, but she didn’t pick up. Damn it.

In the past when she hadn’t been available when I called, she had almost always called me back the same day. She seemed to pride herself on efficient service, so I knew she’d get back to me as soon as possible.

In the meantime, I might as well kill some time.Opening up my group chat with Shawn, Bart, and Jeremiah, I fired off a quick message. One of them was always up for doing something, and since it was already late afternoon, someone had to have finished working by now.

When none of them answered within the next few minutes, I sighed. Fuck.

I hated waiting around for things. It wasn’t that I was impatient, but I never used to have time to just sit around. I’d always been racing from one place to the next. Not having anywhere to go or anything to do these days frustrated me.

If only I knew where they were, I could—

The thought cut off when I remembered I could find out where they were. We’d all installed that software on our phones that allowed certain people to see your whereabouts and we’d given each other access to our locations.

A situation like this was exactly why we’d done it, too. None of us had our phones permanently attached to our hands and we often just left them lying on a table or had them stashed away somewhere, but since we were all always welcome wherever the others were, we’d decided to eliminate the schlep of having to text around and wait for responses.

I grinned when I opened the app and saw that Shawn and Bart were at a bar not far from where I was. I fucking knew they weren’t working anymore.

I hit the button to start the car and headed in their direction. They were close enough that I could join them and it wouldn’t take me an hour to get back once I heard from Larisa.

Today was going well for me so far. Now all I needed was for her to call me back and say she’d meet up with me for dinner, and then it would be as close to perfect as I’d had in a while.
