“Yes,” I nod. “But you know that I have a promise ring on, right?” I hold up my left ring finger. “So it’s weird. I mean, I made a promise to the church and to God! I—”

Renee immediately assumes that I broke that vow.

“Oh, honey, it’s okay,” she says with a comforting pat to my shoulder. “These things happen sometimes. You’re not a criminal or whore or anything.”

“But it’s just so unlikely,” I sniffle piteously. “I mean, we’ve only ever done anal except for one time at the beginning when we did the Mormon Dick Soak.”

Renee’s eyes go wide.

“Oh my God, hon, you did that? You know the Mormon Dick Soak is totally not fail-proof. If you ask me, it’s a terrible technique because all it does is make you want sex even more. It gets both you and him riled up, and even more achy and horny,” she says.

Tears form in my eyes.

“I know. It was pure torture, and like I said, we only did it once before turning to all anal.”

Renee shakes her head sympathetically.

“Yeah, but you know that one drop is enough to get you pregnant. He doesn’t have to ejaculate fully. All it takes is one little drop. I mean, did you wear a condom when you guys were doing it?”

I shake my head.

“No,” I whisper. “Not at all.”

She nods knowingly then.

“That has to be it then. Trust me, I understand because I’ve had some scares trying out that method with men that I’ve dated before, and it was ri-donk-ulous. I got so fed up and desperate that I gave up my promise ring, instead. God forgive me, but it was that bad.”

I stare at her in shock.

“Wait, I didn’t know you gave up your promise ring.”

Renee looks a bit secretive.

“I know. It’s just it was so difficult, and we are living in the City of Sin. Besides, these days, no guy wants to date a woman who’s virginal and pure like that. They come to Vegas thinking they’re going to meet strippers and hos, and while we’re definitely not that, I don’t want to be some weird aberration either.”

I nod slowly.

“Yeah, I know what you mean.”

My buddy sighs then, pushing back her wild curls.

“It’s going to be fine, hon. You’re going to be fine.”

I look down at my hands.

“Yeah, but am I going to do?” I whisper. “I mean, I’m probably almost in my second trimester already.”

Renee looks thoughtful.

“Well, I can’t tell you what to do, but I will say that babies are always a blessing,” she states. “Even if they don’t always pop up at the right time,” she adds with a soft smile.

“I guess so,” I murmur, absentmindedly rubbing my stomach. “It’s just such a surprise. And for it to happen at a dance audition too! God, I can’t believe it.” But then, my friend takes my hand and looks deep into my eyes.

“This might not be the right time to ask, but do you love the baby’s father?” she asks. “Is he good to you? Would he make for a wonderful dad?”

I take a deep breath.

“I do love him,” I admit in a low voice. “It wasn’t supposed to happen, to be honest, and I won’t get into the reasons why right now. But it just kind of happened on its own, and I’m so happy being with Stone. I’ve never felt this way about another man before, and it’s hard to imagine that I ever will because my man treats me so well.”
