Bought For Love - Page 27

“Fuck, baby. I know we still need to talk, but having you naked underneath me when I know you love me is making it damn hard for me to think of anything except sinking inside you.”

I wiggled my hips and pressed up against his cock. “Not only is hard an understatement, but you forgot thick and long.”

“Not yet, Emma,” he growled, rolling off me and onto the mattress. Then he shifted me in his arms until he was spooning me from behind, his hard length nestled between my butt cheeks. One strong arm was underneath my head, my cheek resting against a muscular bicep. The other was flung over my side, his palm resting over my lower belly. “Talking first. Fucking your brains out second.”

“I love you. You love me. We’re married. I’m pregnant with your baby. What else do we need to talk about?” I grumbled.

“Are you okay with my past?”

I twisted in his arms to peer up at his face so he could see how serious I was when I responded. “Okay isn’t the word I’d choose to describe how I feel about everything you went through when you were growing up. I’m sad for the little boy who was so badly mistreated. Pissed at the foster parents who should’ve protected you instead of neglecting you. Proud that you found a way to help those other kids who were stuck in the same messed-up system that let you down.”

“Even though it meant I broke the law and have a record?”

I thought about it before answering. If I’d known about his criminal past before I’d agreed to marry him, I almost definitely wouldn’t have gone through with it. But then I wouldn’t have gotten to know Miles. I wouldn’t have fallen in love with him, and I wouldn’t be carrying his baby. And I never would have learned how selfless he really was.

“You only have a record because you turned yourself in. Even knowing what you stood to lose, you sacrificed yourself because it was the only way to save that charity, and I’m in awe of you for it. If you did that for people you didn’t even know, I have a feeling you’d do just about anything to protect me and our baby.”

“Damn straight.” His arms tightened around me, and his blue eyes darkened.

He kissed me—hard—and didn’t lift his head again until I’d melted against him.

“How does Eva know about your past? Did you open up to her, too?” I couldn’t stop myself from asking.

“It wasn’t like that between Eva and me, baby. She was interested in my money, not in me as a person. As soon as she found out about my criminal record, from another source, she couldn’t get away from me fast enough. She didn’t want me to tarnish her reputation.” He chuckled, but without any humor. “That’s what made the whole damn thing so fucking ironic. It took me a while to realize it, but I was only with her because she’s the kind of woman everyone expected me to marry and I was tired of being alone. But I should’ve known it would never have worked between us before she fucked me over. I didn’t love her. Hell, I hadn’t even slept with her, and we were dating for months before she found out about my past. She never really knew the real me. If she had, she’d know better than to try to fuck you over, because I’ll do whatever it takes to make sure she can’t hurt you again.”

My lips tilted up in a smug grin when I thought about how quickly Miles had dragged me to bed the day we’d married—barely more than a week after we’d met and only the second time we’d seen each other. “Her loss was my gain. Instead of punishing her for being such a horrible person, maybe I should buy her a present for practically gift-wrapping you for me.”

“When you put it like that, I guess I can cut her some slack, since her dumping me led me to the best thing that’s ever happened to me—you.”

I dropped my head onto his bicep again and arched my back to press my butt against him. “Please tell me we’re done talking and can finally get to the make-up sex part of this evening.”

His cock jerked, and a growl rumbled up his chest. The muscle under my cheek bunched when he bent his arm and palmed one of my breasts. “Who am I to deny the woman I love when she needs me?”

He dragged his thumb back and forth over my nipple until it pebbled. His other hand glided down my belly, drifting over my pussy to grip my thigh and lift it up. He slid his knee between my legs and pressed his cock against my entrance. With one smooth glide, he was deep inside me.
