“Okay, I’ll try not to,” I whisper.
“That’s my girl.” He gives me that megawatt smile of his and I can’t help but smile back. “You ready to do this?” he asks with a wink as we reach the doors.
“Hell yeah,” I say, jutting out my chin. He chuckles then pushes opens the doors. The party is in full swing and completely packed. The music is bumping but Beau seems to know where we are going so I let him lead me down the stairs and around, though the crowd, and right to a group of people in one of the much quieter corners of the room. As we get closer, I can start to make out some of the people in the middle. Next to a man that is maybe an inch or two shorter than Beau but way wider is Em, Beau’s sister and next to them is an older couple. Em sees me and squeals. She runs to us when she sees that we are there.
“Oh my God! I haven’t seen you in forever.” I laugh as she wraps me in a hug. I watch as Beau and the big man do that bro hug thing where they slap each other hard on the back a few times then they pull back.
“It’s really good to see you, man. How have you been?” Big man asks. Beau grins and reaches over grabbing my hand.
“I have been fucking great man. This is my girl Ella, Ella this is Baby Bash.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” I say, taking his hand.
“Well aren’t you a sweet little thing?” Bash asks, kissing my hand. Beau growls and pulls me closer to his side.
“No touching.” Bash’s eyes twinkle with mirth before he sighs dramatically.
“Whatever will I do then?” I laugh and like him immediately. I just know he loves giving beau hell.
“Come on, babe. I want you to meet my parents.” I bite my lip and nod. Bash moves and we walk over to his parents. “Ella, this is my mother Suzette and my father Beaumont. Mom, Dad this is Ella.” His mom gives me a hug.
“It’s wonderful to meet you dear. I have heard so much about you.”
“I have heard a lot of good things about you too,” I say. When she moves away his dad gives me a hug too.
“Thanks for making our son happy, Ella.” I blush.
“Thank you. It’s so nice to meet both of you.” Bash comes up behind us with two flutes of champagne.
“Now that the love birds are here let’s get this party started.” Everyone laughs while I blush. We clink our glasses together. We have been here for an hour and just got on the dance floor when a slow song comes on. He pulls me close to him, my head rests on his chest as we sway to the music.
“Chérie, I have something to ask you,” he says stopping mid sway. I look up to see that he looks a little nervous and I hate that look so I stand on my tippy toes and kiss his jaw.
“You can ask me anything.” He takes a deep breath then right in the middle of the ballroom dance floor he drops to one knee and takes my left hand “B… Beau what are you doing?” I ask, gasping.
“Eleanor Gremillon, the last week with you has been the best time of my life. You are the most amazing woman I have ever met. You are kind, thoughtful, sassy as hell, and you will always keep me on my toes. You’re so beautiful inside and out and I love you more than anything in this world. Would you do me the honor of being my wife and the mother of my children?” he asks, pulling out a black box from his suit pocket. He opens it, showing me a huge oval shaped diamond surrounded by much smaller pink sapphires. My hand goes to my mouth and my eyes fill with tears.
“Oh Beau! Of course, I will marry you. I love you so much.” He slips on my ring and of course it fits perfectly. When he stands up everyone around us starts clapping. He sweeps me into his arms and dips me low, kissing the ever-loving crap out of me.
“I love you too, Chérie. Now and always,” he whispers in my ear.
There are shouts and wolf whistles all around us, but I don’t care because the man of my dreams just asked me to spend the rest of my life with him.
I can’t fucking wait.
Epilogue
Beau
Mardi Gras, February 13, 2024
Looking over at my wife as she gets dressed for the first of the two balls, we attend each year, I thank God that she’s mine. Falling in love instantly with the woman of your dreams is amazing. I never once thought that we wouldn’t make it.
