Naked.
Damn.
“Are you on the pill?” he asked.
“Yes,” she said.
“Good.”
“Good?”
“Yes. I want to feel all of you, Gabi. Against all of me.”
“Me, too,” she said.
He lifted himself up on his elbows so he could look down into her brown eyes. He framed her face with his hands and stroked his thumbs over her cheekbones before slowly moving them lower. He followed the path of his hands with his mouth. Kissing her face and then moving down the side of her neck. He traced her collarbone and found a small scar right above her left breast.
He cupped both of her breasts and stroked his finger over one nipple while he sucked the other one into his mouth. He let his hands move lower over her ribs to her waist. He lifted his mouth from her breast and dropped kisses around her belly button, watching as she shifted against him, her legs moving restlessly.
He continued moving lower, placing his palm over her mound and rubbing before shifting his touch to her most intimate flesh. He traced the opening of her body, and her hips jerked upward against him. She opened her legs wider and he pulled his hand from her and replaced it with his erection.
He drew back his hips and slowly entered her. Grabbed her hands with his and stretched them up over her head as he fully seated himself inside her.
Their eyes met.
He felt that contact all the way to his soul as he started thrusting into her. He went slowly at first, feeling the way her body tightened around him each time. Hearing her gasps and how her breath quickened. He wanted the moment to last but felt his climax closing in on him.
He wanted them to orgasm together and pulled one hand free to reach between their bodies and flick his finger over her clit.
She cried his name and he felt her tightening around him as she arched her back and rocked her hips frantically against his. He buried his head in her neck and thrust harder and deeper than before, driving himself toward climax.
When they had both climaxed, she wrapped her arms and legs around him and stroked her hands up and down his back. She kissed his shoulder and rested her cheek against it.
He lowered his head to her chest, heard the hammering of her heart underneath him. He was careful to keep her from feeling all of his weight.
When he could breathe again, he got up and cleaned them both up. Then he tucked her into his bed and climbed in next to her.
“What are you doing?”
“What I should have done the first time,” he said. “Staying with you all night.”
She didn’t say anything, just curled against him and fell asleep. He stayed awake, though. Knowing that his life would have been very different if he’d done this the last time.
Eleven
The county commissioners were mostly nice people who wanted to make the county better for the citizens who lived here. Her mom had served back in the early nineties and they’d done lots of good projects, like this playground that had been cutting-edge in the 1990s but was now out-of-date and sadly in need of repair.
But all of that was going to be taken care of today. She had the check from Kingsley in her pocket. The plans from the playground engineer she’d hired were in her bag. She had the feeling that she could do anything.
Sure, she was willing to admit the possibility that fantastic sex with Kingsley was partially responsible for her mood. But the truth was that she knew it was more than sex. When she’d woken in his arms this morning and looked over at his face and saw him watching her...she felt something electric pass between them.
Something.
Well, it felt like a hell of a lot more than lust. Was it love?
Love.
It scared her to think how all-encompassing the feeling was. She had to fight the urge to text Kingsley. Just to see how he was doing. Because she missed him.
She’d left his mansion at 7:00 a.m. and had been away from him for a mere three hours. But already she missed him.
Just a month ago she would have been happy to never see him darken her door again but now he made the day seem sunnier.
Damn.
This would be funny if it were happening to someone else. But it was her. And she knew that she wouldn’t have it any other way.
She daydreamed about her life with Kingsley and Conner. Thought of them as a picture-perfect little family.
She wasn’t really ready to be a mom. And things were complicated with Kingsley. No matter how many dreams she spun in her head, the reality was he was fixated on the past. A past that she was finally finding closure to.
