He was trying to distract her with sex.
Dammit, it was working, too.
She wanted to let it go. It didn’t affect her. But she cared for Kingsley and Conner. She wanted the stigma of that arrest and release to go away.
“But—”
He brought his mouth down on hers. He lifted her off her feet and changed their positions so that she was seated on the desk and he stood between her legs.
He pushed the skirt she was wearing up and reached between her legs to pull her panties down, drawing the fabric slowly down her legs and tossing it on the floor.
“Do you really want to talk about the past? When the future is so much more exciting,” he said.
She didn’t. She tangled her hands in the hair at the back of his neck and drew his head forward, shifting her body against his hand as their mouths met. She channeled all her questions into the kiss, all her dreams and desires. She thrust her tongue deep into his mouth, letting him know that she wasn’t passive. Not where this was concerned.
Whatever he was doing, she wanted to help him. And she would, but right now she wanted him.
He tore his mouth from hers, kissed the length of her neck and slowly moved down her body, finding her nipple through the fabric of her dress and bra and scraping his teeth over it until it hardened. She fumbled between them trying to find his zipper and found his erection pressed against his pants.
She stroked him through his jeans as he sucked her nipple into his mouth. She undid his top button, carefully lowered the zipper of his pants and then pushed his underwear out of her way.
He was hot and hard, and she drew him closer to her with a light grasp on his body. She stroked her fingers up and down his length and then rubbed her finger over the tip, making small circles.
He looked up at her as he drew her hips toward the edge of the desk and positioned himself to enter her.
But he didn’t move any farther; the tip of his body remained poised at the entrance of hers. She wanted to outwait him but she needed him, wanted to be filled with him now. She shifted and forced him inside her and he drew back his hips and returned with a forceful thrust that drove him deep inside her; she arched her back and grabbed his shoulders as shudders racked her body.
She felt pleasure so intense she couldn’t breathe for a second as he drew back and thrust again. Their eyes met and their kiss deepened as he continued to rock in and out of her body until they both orgasmed and cried each other’s names.
He drew her close to him, wrapped his big strong arms around her and held her as their breathing slowed.
“I’m here for revenge,” he said softly. “To make the person who stole you from me pay.”
His words were quietly whispered and she felt them all the way to her core. She didn’t know what to say to that. So she just held on to him and pretended everything would be okay.
Fourteen
Gabi tried to sleep in Kingsley’s arms in his big, comfortable king bed. But his words kept circling around in her head.
Vengeance.
Revenge.
These were things that she didn’t believe in. They had a justice system for a reason, and so far she hadn’t seen anything resolved by digging into the past. Nothing new had been uncovered on this vengeance mission. Kingsley needed to let go. He needed to move on.
Sure, she was the daughter of a judge. She’d always had faith in the judicial system. Heck, even Kingsley, who was innocent, had been let go. Why would he pursue revenge?
Because Conner could be hurt. It wasn’t just about ignorant parents who wouldn’t let him have a playdate. This was the kind of thing that would poison Kingsley. He thought he’d find something that everyone missed, but what if he didn’t? Until he let it go they’d never be able to have the kind of future she knew she wanted with him.
She rolled away from him, staring at the clock on the nightstand. Time seemed to be moving so slowly.
She should have said something to him. Forced him to tell her what he really meant instead of allowing him to carry her back to bed to make love.
Love.
She’d been dancing around the word for days. Trying to figure out if she was just feeling the aftereffects of reuniting with her first love from college or if this was the real thing. She still wasn’t sure. But she did know that a man who took justice into his own hands... She wouldn’t allow herself to love a man like that.
“What’s the matter?”
She rolled over and looked at him. In the dark room she could just make out his features. He was concerned. Rightly so: it was 3:05 in the morning. Most people were asleep.
