“She just endured that with us, and did all she could to keep him safe when he went down. Fuck off, Dash.”

Dash does not fuck off. In fact, he does the opposite of fucking off. He gets right in front of me, halting me again as Drex is loaded up into the back of a SUV. Two guys walk into the house, one of them being Snake. He doesn’t even acknowledge me.

“The hell is your problem?” Drake demands, glaring at Dash.

“She made a call to her mother. Then this shit happens. This girl is smack dab in the middle of too many fucking coincidences. Drex is going to end up dead if we keep letting her tag along, pretending as though she’s not a fucking Trojan Horse.”

I made that call two weeks ago.

When he grabs my arm hard enough to bruise it, I snap. My body reacts before my mind, and I bring my knee up too fast for him to react. It collides with his crotch, and Dash goes down like a ton of bricks, groaning when he collapses to the ground.

My heartbeat thrums in my ears, and fear attacks my instincts, forcing me to recoil instead of running like I should. They might actually kill me now. As if this is all my fault.

“Stop dicking around and get her loaded up,” Snake calls from the back.

How could he? He’s seen me with Drex. He knows I’m not out to freaking hurt him!

“I’ll take her with me,” Drake growls.

Since he seems to be the only one to not want me dead, I follow without hesitation.

“The hell you will,” Dash says through strain, coughing as he tries to stand. “Herrin wants her at the clubhouse. That’s where we’re taking her. I’ve already called him and told him Drex would be dead if we hadn’t gotten here when we did. It’s fortunate we were at Axle’s house, which isn’t too far away. She’s a fucking menace, and we’re sick of playing this game.”

Axle finally speaks up. “Let Drake take her. We need to get Drex to a hospital. He’s still out. It could be bad. Take care of the house, grab the shit he’ll want to keep, and torch the rest.”

Dash curses as I quickly climb onto the back of Drake’s bike.

“I really hope I don’t get killed for this,” he groans, wincing as he hands me his only helmet. “But I’m not about to let them make you disappear.”

Sickness unfurls in my stomach as bile rises. This day actually started out pretty good. But I should have known better than to think it could last.

My eyes flick to Drex as Axle shuts the door. It takes all my strength not to beg them to let me go with them, even knowing it could result in my death.

But then I remember just how little Drex trusts me. I can’t stand the thought of him wanting me dead, too.

Pain slices through me as Drake revs the bike, and I clutch his middle as he drives us away. I somehow just became public enemy number one to the Death Dealers.

End of Book One.
