With as much sex as we’ve been having, I was surprised when I didn’t get pregnant right away, but that’s just amped up the sex. Football season has started, and I am in the hiring stage for the camp, so I haven’t been able to travel with him at all, which is something we’ll want to do in the future.
“Good morning, Mr. Jenkins,” I say, gesturing for the giant of a man to sit in one of the mid-century modern chairs I have in front of my desk. He sits down but doesn’t look too comfortable. I make a note to change the chairs. I don’t know what I was thinking putting in such dainty chairs. I am going to be dealing with athletes on a daily basis. I sit down after he does. I grab his folder from the pile on my desk and open it. Inside is his offer letter. I slide it across to him and he looks it over before looking back up at me.
“Good morning, ma’am,” he says, his voice deep and gruff. Perfect for coaching kids in my opinion.
“Kylie is fine,” I say, laughing. “Your resume is pretty impressive. I’ve spoken to Highlands High School and while they are sad to see you go, they hold you in the highest regard.”
“I am sad to go, but I’ve done all I can do there. I am ready for the next challenge,” he says.
“We’ve done a thorough background check and we are pleased to offer you the position of head coach for our Boston camp. Are you prepared to relocate? I know you had your heart set on the one in Florida, but we think your talents could be better spotlighted in our flagship camp.”
“Wow, thank you. I accept the position. I am prepared to move up here. No wife or kids yet, so moving is easy.”
“Excellent. Mr. Halstead has taken the liberty of setting up an apartment for you to use as a perk. The floor will be taken up by the other coaches.”
We spend the next twenty minutes going over the salary particulars and any questions he has.”
“One last question, when do you want me to start?”
“A week from Monday. Is that enough time to get up here?”
“Yes. That will be sufficient.”
“Welcome aboard. Camps start in two weeks.”
“Thank you,” he says shaking my hand and getting up. He turns around to leave when my assistant, Jane walks in.
“Ma’am? Your next appointment has arrived.”
“Thank you, Jane. “Coach, this is Jane. Jane, Coach Jenkins.”
“Nice to meet you,” Jane says shyly, which surprises me because she’s one of the most outgoing people I’ve ever met.
“Ma’am,” he growls and suddenly it all makes sense.
“Jane, perhaps you and Coach would like to go out to lunch? Send in the next one before you go,” I say smiling.
“Yes ma’am. I’ll be back soon.”
“Take your time,” I reply. She sends in the next hire.
Later that night, I am lying on the couch, watching TV, when the alarm chimes to alert me that the front door has been opened. I turn and look as Mitch comes in and sets his bags down on the floor. I’m up and in his arms before I take another breath.
“Miss me, kitten?”
“Fuck yes,” I reply, kissing him. “Wait, why are you home so early? The game isn’t until Sunday and it’s in Arizona.”
“I missed you. We are flying back out tomorrow morning.”
“We?”
“Yes. The team coordinators figured out a way that you can come meet me on a few days before we play and you’ll fly home with the team after the games. Two other ladies fly with us and I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before.”
“That’s perfect. I can still work, and I get to be with you! It’s the best of everything.”
“Only the best for you,” he says carrying me to our bed, where he spends several hours loving me before we have to be at the airport.
After the game, we head out to a club with the rest of the team for some drinks before we head home.
“Are you sure you don’t want to get married sooner?” he asks just as he’s done for the last month.
“I’m sure,” I lie, because even though I do want to, I know I can’t. My whole family should be in attendance.
“Fine. We are just pretty close to Vegas.”
“As tempting as Vegas sounds, we have already put the deposit down on the hotel and ordered the invitations.”
“I know but I love you so much I’d marry you twice.”
“Well, how can I refuse that?” I say, giving in.
Instead of going home, we make a side trip to Vegas and get married in a cute chapel. The only minister available is a woman dressed up like Elvira. It’s not perfect, but it’s us.
We spend the night, our first as husband and wife, before heading home. While we understand the importance of family, this was for us. The party can wait, and we can do it all over again for friends and family.
