My back straightens at his words.

How dare he.

“Why? Your booty call just leave? So now you need to add a new one?” I question. Then I laugh, pulling free as I walk toward where I know my father is waiting. I stop, turn, and lift my dress so he has a clear view of my ass. “This booty isn’t for your calling.” Then I drop my dress as he bites his lip and I walk away from him.

She has on a fluorescent pink G-string and an ass that I want to bite. Badly. I didn’t think she had it in her to be feisty and a tease all in one go, but she does. Walking back into the living room, she’s sitting with her legs crossed and her skirt no longer showing that extraordinary ass. Walking over close to her, I sit on the double sofa and drop my hand on her bare thigh, I feel her tighten under it, as I look up to her father. Carla’s father doesn’t miss the touch, he just nods his head.

“To what do we owe this visit?” Carla asks. “A surprise one too,” she murmurs, sounding surprised herself.

“Not that you’re not welcome, Gerald.” I use his first name. “But is there a reason for your visit?”

“Yes.” He looks from me to his daughter. “Someone has whispered to your mother that this is all fake. I want the truth. I don’t need anything blowing back on our good family name.”

Fucking hell, he really is a dick.

It makes me smile knowing what a fucking asshole he is, and what he deserves.

“Who said that?” Her hand covers mine and she squeezes just before he answers with, “Clinton.”

Carla’s hand leaves mine and she stands.

Her father’s eyes follow her. “Sit down, Carla. I told her his lie won’t help, so this is why I’m here, to inform you of what’s happening.”

“I told you he wasn’t right for me. But you didn’t believe me,” she says, her eyebrows rising.

“Sit down, Carla,” her father orders her.

“No, I have to get to work.” She walks off, leaving me sitting in the same room as her father, a man I don’t particularly dislike like, to say the least.

“I hope you understand what you’re in for when it comes to her.” He shakes his head.

“I do.” I don’t, but he doesn’t need to know that.

“I knew your father. Did you know that?” he says, surprising me.

“I did.”

Gerald’s eyes open wider, like he wasn’t expecting me to say the truth. “Tragic what happened to him. How that all played out.”

“Yes. Yes, it is,” I say, agreeing. “Now, is there anything else you need, Gerald?”

“I take it she told you I will be paying for this wedding, it’s the least I can do. Hopefully, my daughter only gets married once.”

“She did mention it. There’s no need, I have it covered.”

Gerald stands, Carla walks back out with her bag slung over her shoulder, ready to leave.

“You are planning on taking me to work, aren’t you?” she asks me. Carla looks to her father. “Next time you feel the need to stop by, call first.” She offers me her hand, and I get up and take it. Her father starts to walk out, and soon it’s just us standing there. Carla drops my hand like it’s burned her the minute the door is shut behind Gerald.

“What happened to your parents?” she asks. I should have known sooner or later she’d ask. “And how did my father know them?”

“My mother died over ten years ago, when I was a teenager. My father died when I reached eighteen. It was my birthday present to find him hanging from our garage ceiling.”

“Oh my God.” She gasps loudly. “I’m so sorry. So, so, very sorry.”

“It happened a long time ago.”

“I’m torn between hugging you right now and still hating you,” she says truthfully.

“Why can’t you do both?”

Carla shakes her head. “I need to get to work.”

“Let me drive you.”

Her hand goes to her hip. “What do you mean? I was expecting you to.” Then she walks out straight to where my car is located and opens the passenger door.

I follow closely behind her, and then we head off to the bar.

She hardly talks on the drive over, simply works from her phone until we get closer. “I’ll be late tonight, pick me up around seven?” Then she goes to get out.

“No goodbye kiss?” I ask her.

“You know what you can kiss, but I’m not showing it to you again.” She smiles sweetly as I stare at her ass.

I would like to kiss that ass. Bite it. Take it. You name it.

That’s one fine ass.

“How long do you think you can play this game for?” Barry asks as we sit at the bar. He asked to meet me for drinks. And I had time to kill while I wait for my fiancée to be finished with work.
