Saskia nods as I pull her back to me until my hand touches the stock room door. Pulling it open, I bring her in with me. Not letting go of her hand is a hard task, but if I do, I’m afraid that the connection will be lost and the real world will smack us in the face.

The real world damn-well fucking sucks.

Saskia’s world is where I want to be.

Pity life isn’t as easy as it is in the movies.

Hands start moving fast, lips become heated with passion. Just as my tongue leaves my mouth to take control of hers, she pushes me on my chest, separating us. Then she slaps me hard across my face. She makes me smile, but as I look up I see her face scrunched up in anger.

“You can’t just fucking kiss me, you fool.”

“Fool? You could have pushed me away. You could have not come in this room with me, Barbie.”

Her head starts shaking. “Don’t Barbie me. You give me whiplash. Aren’t I meant to be the one giving you whiplash?” she asks sarcastically.

She’s right, I have a feeling she’s always right with her words. She thinks about everything she says. Her hands are on her hips, her lips are puckered.

“I could fuck you against that wall right fucking now if I wanted to.” I take a step closer to her, but she shakes her head, stepping back.

“No. I’m with Stiles now. You need to do what you actually say. You lack follow through, Ryken. Do you know that?”

I chuckle at her words which makes her cross her arms over her chest. When did she become this outspoken?

“You laugh, but you’re the one always saying ‘this can’t happen’ or ‘we can’t happen.’ Yet, every time you’re near me, you’re working out ways to touch me.”

Stepping up close to her, I lean down, breathing her in. Her scent is intoxicating, and I could easily get drunk on the perfumed aroma.

“You need to fuck off. I’m being serious, Ryken. No more. I don’t want to hurt Livia. Have you had sex with her since… well, have you?”

“No.”

Saskia’s lips form a straight line. “Livia’s serious. She’s never serious about guys. I don’t want to be the one to break her heart, Ryken. Don’t make me break her heart for no good reason. You don’t want me.”

Taking a deep breath, I nod my head. “Try to avoid being around me.”

She nods her head as I step back, touching the door handle.

“You seem to be my downfall without me realizing it. Avoid me, Barbie. I’m not playing.” Stepping out, I come face to face with Robert, her friend, who looks behind me straight to where she’s still inside the room.

“Ryken…” he says my name with disdain as I step past him and all I hear is the click of the door as she closes it.

Grabbing my bag, I leave. Today is not the day I should be faking it. Because I’m afraid, I won’t stand by my word.

I’ve already failed several times and it’s bound to happen again.

ONE MONTH LATER

Livia’s hands are running down my chest, her lips nipping at my ear. Sliding my hand down to her ass, I lift her up making her giggle in my ear as I place her on the counter. It’s been one month since that day in the closet, and not once have I broken my word to Barbie. I’ve avoided her as she’s avoided me at all costs. It’s safer this way.

My eighteenth birthday is coming up soon, and when that happens, my life will start changing. Taking Barbie along for the ride isn’t part of that plan. Neither is taking Livia.

I should be single and partying, not holding hands with a girl I think I’m slowly falling for. She’s growing on me, in more ways than one. Our time together now isn’t forced. No, it’s comfortable. She’s comfortable. In more ways than one.

“Fuck! Come on, guys, not here.” Cane swears as he walks past us.

She bites at my ear then pushes back off of me. Leaning my head on her, I turn to see Cane staring at us with his eyes wide.

“Your mother is about to walk in, Livia.”

I laugh on her chest. She brushes my hair with her fingers as I stand between her legs.

“Like she cares. Have you seen how much she loves him?”

Today’s a family gathering at Livia’s. A dinner. Plus, one extra. Cane. He seems to go where I go lately. More often than not now. Which surprised me at first because they hate each other, but now they seem to tolerate each other. It’s usually us three, always together. Until tonight.

Stacey walks in holding some flowers. Followed closely behind her is Livia’s father, Christopher. He’s smiling as he speaks to someone, then he turns around to face us, and that’s when I see her. I’ve seen her several times since that day in the room—we do go to the same school together after all. But none of it has been in close proximity.
