I peer into it and walk close enough to get a good look. The contents make my stomach turn. Inside are pictures of me from the other night, getting dressed to go out with Fanny, wearing only panties and my bra. There are dozens of pictures from the last few weeks, some while I’m at home, and others while I’m out or at work. “Is that what I think it is?”
Once Darius has his shirt buttoned and tucked in, he goes to his desk where he grabs his backpack, puts it on his desk, then pulls out a pair of latex gloves and an extra-large clear plastic bag, which he opens and leaves on the desk. After pulling the gloves on, he grabs the box from my brother and sets it on his desk inside the plastic bag carefully. He’s silent as he looks the contents over. The only clue that he’s affected by what he’s looking at is his clenched fists at his sides. I’ve never seen him look this serious before.
“He fucking came all over these.” Darius seethes through clenched teeth.
“I hate to state the obvious but isn’t this a good thing. We’ve got his DNA now. We should be able to find him and press charges, right?” I ask.
“I wish it were that easy. If his DNA isn’t in the system, they’ll have nothing to match it to.”
Jason slams his fist into the wall. “What do we need to do to catch this guy?”
“Take it easy, man. My guys are watching the security feed, let’s see what they caught when this box was dropped off.”
“He used a delivery service this time,” Jason tells us.
“Even better, the company should have his information then,” Darius says, trying to talk my brother down.
I’ve never seen Jason this upset. Walking to my brother, I wrap my arms around him and hug him tight. “I’m sorry I wasn’t taking this seriously before. I just thought it was someone being an asshole or a guy with a silly crush. I didn’t know it would turn into this.”
Jason breathes out a heavy sigh. “You’re all I have left, Stace. If something happens to you, I’ve got no one else.”
“I know, I’m sorry. I’ll do whatever you and Darius say to be safe until we catch this monster.”
Jason drops a kiss on the top of my head and releases me, then looks at Darius. “What’s the plan?”
“The first thing I’m going to do is get in contact with Detective Locklear and let him know what we’ve got, so he can send someone out to come and pick this up and take it to Forensics. They’ll want to talk to you about who delivered the package. Next, I’m going to talk to my guys and see what they got off the security cameras, see if they’ve noticed anyone hanging around that shouldn’t be. I’m also going to have them do a trace on the delivery to see if they can get to the source.”
“Fine. I’m going to take Stacey home with me. Call me as soon as you find out anything.”
“Not happening.”
Jason freezes. “Excuse me?”
“Stacey will be with me at all times. If you would prefer we stay at your place, that’s fine by me, but if you can’t accept that Stacey is my woman, then she’s coming home with me.”
“I don’t know who the hell you think you are-”
“I’m the best in the fucking business, that’s why you called me to help. I’m also the man who’s in love with your sister. I’m more than equipped to keep her safe and have every intention of doing so.”
“You love me?” I ask in shock.
“Of course, I love you, Stacey.”
“Is this what you want, Stacey? He can stay outside as far as I’m concerned.” Jason asks me.
I roll my eyes at Jason and look back at Darius. “Yes, this is what I want.”
“I’ll be headed home once I speak with the police. When should I expect to see you both?”
“We’ll be headed out that way soon,” Darius says.
Jason gives me a long look, and I nod, telling him it’s okay for him to go. God, I love my brother, but I need him to go so Darius and I can talk.
Once he’s out the door, Darius goes and locks it. He turns, and his eyes find mine.
“Are you okay?” He asks.
“Are you asking if I’m okay with the fact that my brother almost walked in on us fucking?”
“Language.” He says sharply.
“Or are you asking if I am okay that I just realized my stalker isn’t just an annoyance but is actually dangerous? You know what, you could even be asking if I’m okay with the fact that my assistant, who isn’t really my assistant, just told my brother he loved me before actually telling me?” I ask, crossing my arms over my chest and arching my eyebrows.
