Assisting Her Boss (Sister Switch 2) - Page 1

Chapter 1AlexaStaring in the mirror, I notice dark circles have formed under my eyes. This is going to be a bad day. How am I supposed to be my sister when I wake up looking like shit? I tossed and turned all night, thinking about how stupid this plan is—my plan.

I wash my face and brush my teeth as a part of my routine, and I feel better. Now I need a gallon of coffee to get me through the day. Alyssa laid out an outfit for me that’s a simple white top and grey skirt with a matching blazer. Posing, I practice my lines. “Good morning, Mr. King. Here’s your coffee, Mr. King. Have a safe trip, Mr. King.” Smiling as I successfully pull off my sister’s sweet and shy look.

If only her asshole boss had already left on his business trip, this would be easy, but he’s going to be there, and I’m not sure I can handle this. I have no idea how to be a personal assistant, but I can’t mess this up for Alyssa.

I fix my hair like my sister, putting it up in a tight, perfectly-neat middle of my head ponytail. Then I apply my makeup lightly, smearing our favorite pink glossy lip stain on my lips, and then admire my handiwork.

Luckily, both of us are the same size, so her work clothes fit me even if I’m not comfortable in them, which I’m totally not. Pacing across my bedroom floor in her heels, I look like a baby giraffe learning to walk. Doesn’t she have shorter heels? I hope Mr. King isn’t the type to walk fast, making me trail after him because I’ll be really trailing far behind.

Slipping them off, I carry them as I quietly move to the kitchen for some coffee. As it brews, I laugh softly, staring out at our small two-bedroom apartment. It’s a nice place for us because we get along so well, but I’ve got to be quiet since Alyssa’s still asleep. Once my coffee’s made, I take a drink and sigh.

I spend the next twenty minutes walking in her heels to shake the baby colt look. I’m a sneaker kind of girl, but she wears killer heels that look sexy but feel like total hell.

For a woman who has no interest in men, she sure takes a lot of care in her look. I know she does it for herself, but shit, there are a bunch of ways to shine without suffering. Flats are cute as well. Unless Captain Asshole mandates heels as a part of the professional attire. I’m not sure I’d put it past him. From her emails and texts, he’s short with her and too demanding.

By the time I step out into the living room, I gain a little confidence because I don’t fall flat on my face. “I can do this,” I say with a little extra faith.

I might have spoken too soon. My next step sends me flailing as I fall to the floor. Fortunately, I miss the coffee table and avoid clipping my face.

Alyssa’s still asleep since she doesn’t leave for another two hours. I hope my tumble didn’t wake her. If she sees I’m not qualified, she might back out on me.

My future depends on Alyssa taking my math final. A subject I hate along with the Stuffed Shirt, Professor Strong. I roll my eyes at his name. His body fits his name, and all the girls notice. I hate math so much that I can’t find him attractive if I tried.

Thankfully, my sister doesn’t stir, so I grab my notes and everything I need, including her car keys, then take my coffee to go. Checking my watch, which I haven’t used in forever, I see I have an hour before I’m due in. That gives me plenty of time to review Alyssa’s tips on managing Captain Asshole.
