Code Name - Hacker (Jameson Force Security 4) - Page 21

Could someone like Bebe ever be a part of it?

Most likely not, as I’m not a normal dude.

Regardless, I have some hard decisions to make, and they need to be made soon. I’m out of time with Anatoly, and I have a job to do.CHAPTER 8Bebe“Brought you coffee,” I chirp at Dozer as I walk over to his workstation.

I’m not a “chirpy” kind of person by nature, but I woke up feeling different. Maybe it was the flush of excitement over what might be budding between Griff and me, or maybe it was the fact I’d had the best orgasm of my entire life in his kitchen last night, but I chirp at Dozer.

He knows this is unusual, and his eyes narrow as he accepts the Americano with soymilk. “You’re awfully chipper this morning.”

“Chirpier,” I quip back, turning to my workstation.

“Huh?”

I glance over my shoulder to see he’s clearly confused. “Let’s just say I had a date with Griff last night, and it went very, very well.”

“Oh, I get it,” he drawls with a cheesy grin. “You got laid.”

“No,” I correct with a schoolmarm look. “But I did fool around, and it was awesome. He’s awesome.”

“Good for you,” Dozer exclaims before giving his attention to his computer.

I’m smiling as I log onto my workstation. The retinal software I’d implemented to button up our security on this building has also been applied to each person’s computer. The red beam of light slides over my eyeballs, and my unit starts to boot up.

An alarm emits from Dozier’s computer, and I recognize the sound. If mine was fully booted, I’d be getting the same alarm. It’s from our external security cameras that are mounted around our building. They are programmed with an algorithm to go off if any passersby show too much interest in our building—like if a person continually walks by, stops and studies the building for too long, or attempts to access the gated garage.

Dozer reacts quickly. By the time I move over to his station to hover over his shoulder, he’s pulling up the camera feeds onto one of his large screens that sits atop the table.

I get dizzy as I zero in on the camera pointed right at a rolling steel gate that closes off our underground garage. Standing there staring directly at the camera… is Griff.

“Go get Kynan,” I whisper to Dozer, not because I don’t want to be overheard but because all the air has been sucked from my lungs.

“Who is that?” Dozer asks, not budging from his seat. On the video screen, we watch as Griff pulls his phone from his back pocket and starts tapping on the screen with his thumbs.

My cell phone chimes, indicating I have a text. It’s clearly from Griff. I move to my desk, nab my phone from my purse, and pull up the text.

Let me in.

“Who is that?” Dozer repeats.

“Griff,” I murmur, staring spellbound at his image on the screen. He leans up against the brick support column. Casually crossing his arms over his chest, he lets his gaze wander over the street.

“Why is he here?” Dozer asks as he moves off his stool and starts for the door.

“No clue,” I reply, my ears now starting to ring with what I’m sure is an increase in blood pressure. “But please… just get Kynan quickly.”

Dozer leaves, and I reply to Griff’s text. Just wait. I’m sending someone out.

I watch on the screen as Griff reads my text, looks at the camera, and gives me a stiff nod. He does not appear to be a happy camper right now.

I don’t feel like chirping anymore.

It takes less than a minute for Dozer to get Kynan, who then grabs Saint Bellinger, one of our agents, and meets Griffin at the steel gate. I watch this all on the video screen, moving from camera feed to camera feed.

I’m unfazed when Saint pulls a gun, leveling it on Griff while Kynan opens the gate. I’d expected this because the facility is pretty well hidden, and the fact Griff is here spells trouble. While the camera feed has no audio, Kynan clearly says something to Griff that puts him at ease enough to hold his arms out and stand still while Kynan moves in to pat him down.

Kynan finds no weapon, yet that does nothing to ease my anxiety. The two men exchange words with Griffin doing most of the talking.

Dozer appears back at my side, leaning in to stare at the men. Like me, I’m sure he’s wondering what the fuck is going on.

“Did he know where you worked?” Dozer asks.

“He thinks I work at a computer store in a strip mall in Cranberry.”

“Clearly, he doesn’t think that,” Dozer mutters.

Kynan pulls his phone out. He taps something on the screen, and it causes my phone to ring. He stares into the camera, waiting for me to answer. I do, eyes on the computer screen.
