“Right here.” I meet him at the door, our lips meeting. It’s nothing short of amazing. Even though I just saw him this morning, I missed him all the same throughout the day. Even though we talked once and texted a few times on his down time at the shop.
We’ve made some changes throughout the house, nothing structural, thank goodness. We both didn’t really want to live through any of that, and to be honest, I loved the bones of our home, but updating did take some time. There was lots of painting to be done, new trim work to update, light fixtures and appliances to change out. That was always fun. I’d run to the store and come back with something new. Braxton, my dad, and his dad would be over helping with one thing when I’d add another to the list.
Now, the walls are all painted a soft white with a grayish tone, the trim a brighter white, but the best part is definitely that Braxton and I did the majority of it together, unless it was something to do with plumbing. I wasn’t touching that with a ten-foot pole and left him to do that on his own. We bought new furniture a room at a time, starting with the living room. When I first moved in, he had a hand-me-down couch. We replaced it with an oversized cognac-brown leather couch and chair, added some warmth with a white coffee table and two white end tables. The television was clearly fine. He had that mounted above the fireplace, typical men stuff. I do have to say I love the rattan chairs and barstools that we use at the kitchen bar. We even carried it through with the same style of chairs, tying it in with a white round kitchen table.
Don’t get me started on the bedroom. It’s probably where we had our first little tiff. Braxton needed a king-sized bed, which is what he had before, but it dominated the entire room. I suggested us downsizing to a queen bed. Braxton wasn’t having any of that, talking about how his feet already almost hang off the bed, and if we did anything, it would be to upgrade to a California king. I rolled my eyes, trying my hardest not to laugh as he was so vehement about it. When we started shopping for that room and he lay on a queen size bed, the laughter I was holding in bubbled up, letting it out in the store.
He swiftly got off bed that had his feet hanging well off the end, marched towards me, hefted me over his shoulder, and took me to the truck, where he calmed us both down. Thank goodness Braxton parked in a secluded area. I’ll tell you that because the truck was surely moving and there were plenty of breathless moans coming from both of us.
“Happy anniversary, siren.” His lips meet mine, deepening the kiss as it continues, causing me to arch into his body.
“Happy anniversary,” I moan in reply, my body already igniting with desire.
“I know we promised each other no gifts, but there wasn’t a chance in hell you weren’t getting at least flowers.” I can’t be mad, not at Braxton and how sweet he is. We made a pact of no gift giving, especially after we’ve just finished outfitting our home the way we want it.
“Thank you. I also may have gotten you a small present.” I take his hand, leading him to the kitchen. The flowers are already in a vase, and I place it on the counter before handing him the card that I found. The best part about going shopping out of Lodgeview is they have way more variety, especially at the card store.
I hand him the envelope holding the news inside. “Holy fuck, this is real, right?” He comes straight towards me, engulfing me in his arms, picking me up, and spinning me around in a circle before setting me on my feet.
“Yes, those few days we were out of town? It appears that’s when it happened.” I arch an eyebrow at him, letting him know just who the culprit is. I’m not mad about it though. This just moved us starting a family up a little bit earlier than we planned. But the best things in life never are.
Braxton kisses me. It’s a meeting of lips, tongue, and more of those moans I love to hear come from him when he’s as needy as I am. When Braxton lifts me up, my legs wrap around his hips, and I know we’ll be at the nearest surface and soon.
“Fuck, Rowen, I love you so goddamn much.”
“I love you. I can’t wait to see how our life unfolds and what it will bring us,” I reply in between kisses, trying to reach for his belt, wanting to feel him take me just like this, my skirt rucked up over my hips as he grasps my ass and I sink down on his hard length.
