“Your point? The Nomad still has all his body parts, though I got to tell you girl, it was a close thing and if you keep giving me lip, that could change.”
“You put your hands back on Chains and I’ll make you sorry, Daddy. I love you, but I’m not putting up with this shit anymore. Chains is my man and if I want to have sex with him every day and twice on Sunday from this day forward then I will. What we do together only concerns two people and one of those isn’t you.”
“Nomad?”
“Yeah, Dragon.”
“You gonna lock her down?”
Fuck. Everything is a fucking test with this asshole.
“Kayden, leave me and your Dad alone for a few minutes.”
“You have got to be shitting me.”
“Baby Girl, just do it.”
“The fuck I will! I’m not letting him push us into marriage. That’s just crazy. We will have sex anytime we feel like it and there isn’t a damn thing he can do about it.”
“Kayden, woman, I love you, but if you keep it up you’re going to get me killed. Let me and your Dad talk and say what needs to be said.”
“I… You love me?”
“Jesus, do you think a man would take a beating like I have and then, survive a showdown with your brothers just for fun? I want this, if I didn’t, I wouldn’t still be hanging around.”
She rubs her lips together, her arms crossed at her chest and I can see her father is holding his hands in much the same way. That spells trouble for me in the future, because fuck if I don’t think she’s just as stubborn as her father. I shake my head, because even that’s not enough to make me walk away. I’m never walking away from Kayden.
“We’re not done talking about this,” she says, her voice soft, her eyes even softer and she’s staring at me as if I’ve somehow hung the moon. A man would gladly die for a look like that.
“I didn’t think we were, Baby.”
“I love you, Chains.”
“I know, Kayden.”
“The correct response is, I love you, too, asshole,” she mutters, turning away from me and walking to the door where her dad is standing. He moves aside for her to leave. She stops at the threshold and looks up at her dad.
“I love you, too, but you’re an asshole, Dad.”
“Your mother likes to tell me that often.”
“She’s a wise woman,” Kayden mutters, leaning up on her tiptoes to kiss her dad on the cheek. If I didn’t know I was in love before, I do now, because watching her kiss her own father pisses me off. Those lips belong to me now.
“I know, she married me,” Dragon quips, and the grin on his face gives him the look of a very satisfied man.
“Kayden,” I growl cause she kisses him again.
Damn it, this being owned by a woman is going to take some getting used to. I never saw myself as the pussy-whipped type, but I definitely am in this case. Dragon takes one look at my face and busts out laughing. The bastard knows I’m in deep shit and he’s enjoying it. Kayden ignores me, instead she tries to sign my death warrant.
“Oh, and Dad? That game you were talking about? It was the bird I kept landing on and not just fruit, but cherries. And just so you know, we played that game I landed on the bird and the cherry—”
“Fucking hell, Kayden. Are you trying to get me killed?” I bark.
And what does my woman do?
She laughs.
“Fine, fine I’m going. Jesus, men are such assholes. I don’t even know why I bother,” she adds, walking out.
“Because you love me,” I growl, not liking her comment at fucking all.
“Yeah, I do,” she says, surprising me. I stare at her, watching her lips spread into a smile and I’m lost all over again. I’m not sure how long we stay like that, but Dragon clears his throat and breaks the trance. She blows me a kiss and leaves, leaving me with her dad.
Neither of us speak for a while. I don’t know why he doesn’t. I don’t because I know what’s coming, so I just wait.
“You’re going to marry her.”
“Definitely.”
“You’ll not be having sex with my daughter. She’s not a whore, she’s a good woman. You lock it down with a ring on her finger first.”
“You’ve lived the club life. You want me to believe you had your ring on your old lady’s hand before you fucked her?”
“Hell no. But I’m me. You are just you and this is my daughter.”
I shake my head in disbelief, but I do it smiling, because he’s an asshole, but I have to admit he’s kind of growing on me—like a damn fungus.
“The wedding is going to have to be damn quick. We’re talking, tomorrow.”
