Where is she?
I glance at the open window and feel sick.
She wouldn’t have left me here, would she? I huff angrily, because that’s exactly what she’s done. She took her chance and left me here. I guess that’s what I get for trying to help her. I’m so annoyed, but I know I can’t do anything about it now, so I close my eyes and listen to the sound of his voice.
I still have time to get out of here.
My heart thumping in my chest, I wriggle over and just as I’m about to make my escape, the door opens. Well, now I’m fucked. I just have to hope he leaves his room again soon. Really fucking soon, otherwise, I’m going to pass out and he’ll be dragging my lifeless body out from under here, but hey, at least I won’t be masturbating.
I hold my breath at the sound of him slowly moving around the room. Every creak of the floorboards sends my heart into a mini attack. I’m on the verge of tears, because I’m sure he’s going to catch me. Two minutes is all I need to get through that window and as far away from his room as possible. Please leave. I know he’s not going to, because he just got back in here, but I have to have hope.
“Fuck,” he murmurs. “Six weeks of this bullshit? I’ve got to get myself the fuck out of here and fast.”
I close my eyes as he sinks down onto the bed, the space I have restricting even more. I’m just about to admit defeat and reveal myself when he speaks again.
“Hey. It’s me. Did you get a hold of him?”
He’s on the phone.
“Well, keep trying. I don’t care,” he snaps.
Wow, someone’s in a mood.
I wince, because I’m about to make it a whole lot worse.
“Then make him talk to you. Use whatever tactics you need to. I’ve given you enough ammunition for you to guilt Nate into anything,” Brix growls. “Oh, that’s what you think? You’re easily replaced, Kitty. Just remember that.”
Who the fuck are Kitty and Nate?
I don’t have time to think about it, because there’s a knock at the door. He sighs and gets off the bed.
“Look, I have to go. I’ll call you.”
My heart races as I listen to the sound of him opening the door.
Maybe I have enough time to—
“Mr. Wilson?”
What the heck?
Sasha?
I’d recognize that gushy as hell voice anywhere.
“I’m such a huge fan. I was hoping I could grab you for just a second so I could get a photo with you?” she squeaks.
I bite down on my arm to smother my laughter.
“You’re serious?” he asks. “Like right now?”
“It’ll only take a second,” she promises.
“That’s usually my line,” he chuckles. “Uh, yeah, sure. Why not?”
The moment his voice distances out into the hallway, I drag myself out from under the bed. I’m a sticky and sweaty mess, but I’m free. Just as I’m getting to my feet, the door thrusts open and I find myself staring into the eyes of Brix. He stares at me, startled, but then amusement fills his eyes.
“I was just…”
My voice trails off. Yeah, I have nothing.
“Hiding in my room?”
His eyes don’t leave mine as his voice cuts through me. I brace myself, waiting for him to say something about the hotel, but he doesn’t. I study his face, looking for a flash of recognition, but there’s nothing to suggest he knows who I am. I might as well be some random nurse he’s meeting for the first time. I’m not sure whether to be relieved or offended.
Was I that unmemorable?
“I wasn’t hiding in your room,” I finally reply.
“I’m pretty sure you were under the bed. Were you looking for something? Because I’m pretty sure you’re not going to find it there.”
Oh God.
He’s talking about the dildo.
I open my mouth, but no words come out, so I shut it again. I hate the smug look he’s giving me right now. I hold my breath, praying he doesn’t say anything in front of Sasha.
“So, are you staying here too?” he asks.
Sasha snorts, her hand perched on her hip.
“No, hotshot. We’re nurses here.”
He lifts his eyebrows as he turns around to face her. She flushes, realizing until that point, he probably didn’t have any idea she was in on this with me. He looks from her, to me, and then laughs.
“Really?” He turns back to me. “So, it’s normal practice for the nurses to hide under the beds, then?” He grins at me. “You know, I’d enjoy the whole jumping out like a jack in the box if you were naked.”
I want to die. I am beyond mortified. It’s like life just wants to keep kicking me in the face. He gives me a reassuring smile.
“Don't worry, darlin. I’m not going to tell anyone. Who knows, one of you might come in useful for me later.” He winks at me and motions for the door. “You’re welcome to stay, but you look pretty keen to get out of here.”
