“So, she’s fine?” Edge looks up at the doctor who takes a small step back, and again, I want to burst out laughing. It’s better than crying… I think. God, what is wrong with me?
“She fainted, which is why I did blood work.” He looks over Edge’s shoulder to smile at me as if I’m not right in the head.
“All came back fine. My professional opinion is it’s stress.” Both he and the nurse glance down at the stab wound and he clears his throat. “Hence, why I suggested yoga.”
“Fine. Thank you. We’ll take that into consideration.” Edge seems to take over the room. It doesn’t matter who you are; you pale next to my man. With his striking hair and beautiful turquoise eyes, he’s my everything. I tried to do something unforgivable and yet he stands strong in front of me, taking care of me. Jesus, why did I try to slice off his penis?
I groan causing all three to look at me. “So, are you feeling better?”
I nod yes, not trusting myself to speak. Who knows what might fly out of my mouth. A confession of guilt most likely.
“How much is it?” Edge brings the room back to him.
“I have other patients. You both take care.” The doctor reaches out to shake his hand and pats me on the shoulder as the nurse steps up to hand him more paperwork.
“You don’t have insurance, right?” She smiles at him and I automatically hate her.
“No.” Edge pulls out his wallet giving her his credit card.
The wallet. Well, at least he has it.
“I’ll give this to the billing administrator and will be right back with your receipt.” The perky blond nurse takes the card and I swear to God her fingers touch Edge’s on purpose.
I have to close my eyes at what I’m turning into. This is not healthy; I can’t go insane every time a woman bats her eyelashes at Edge.
My head throbs as my mind spins back to earlier today and the pieces start to fall into place. Shit, under different circumstances, I might have reacted rationally.
“Can I get you some orange juice on the way back?” My eyes pop open and I’m about to say yes, when it becomes clear her question is for Edge.
He smiles and pulls a hand through his hair. “No. I’m fine.”
“Let me know if you need anything.” Her eyes dart to mine and my cheeks heat up.
“Don’t be too active for a week or so. Remember, that wound is deep and you don’t want to split it open. So, nothing too rigorous for you.” She cocks her head so that she can have his full attention and I feel like I’m the imposter. As if I’m witnessing a moment between them.
I’m going to puke. I’m definitely not right.
“Trust me, I’ve had worse,” Edge mumbles as I look up into his blue eyes.
“Well, you take care of yourself. Make sure you keep it—”
“Thanks, we got it,” I snap at her. Her eyes narrow on me. It’s as if she only now figured out I’m here.
“O-kay, I’ll be right back.” She swishes past him, her ponytail swinging as she walks out of the room. And all I visualize is taking my scissors and chopping that swishy ponytail right off.
“Stop,” he says, almost as if he can read my mind. Which I hate.
Sighing I turn toward him. “Thank God I didn’t kill you. For a second—”
“Are you happy?” He leans over me, both hands on the hospital bed, caging me in. Edge likes to cage me. Asshole.
“No. I thought I killed you. I’m hysterical.” I try to hop off the bed.
Of course, I can’t because his hard body stops me. All I want to do is wrap my hands around his neck and beg for forgiveness, but his next words make that impossible.
“You fucking tried to slice my cock off. I should…” He closes his eyes as if he needs a second, and for some fucked-up reason, I’m wet all of a sudden.
Someone knocks on the door and I’m ready to glare at the nurse again, but two police officers saunter in. My mind freezes with fright. They’re coming for me and this time there are two. That can’t be good. I’m fucking doomed.
Wait, Edge is alive. Am I still doomed?
“I’m Officer Border and this is Officer Richards. We need to have a word with you and Ms. Dunghart.” They stand eyeing us, but one’s resting his hand on his holster.
“My friends? Is everything okay?” I stand up.
Edge reaches for my cold hand and it’s like we are six again and he’s my strength.
“I got on a few minutes ago. What friends are you talking about?” The officer who introduced himself as Border raises an eyebrow at me.
“All questions need to go through my lawyer.” Edge’s voice is strong.
