Once we got Cassie’s brother settled in rehab, we came back here and Cassie rented a small apartment, finding a job with a local attorney. Life has been damn good, so good that maybe I shouldn’t rock the boat, but it’s definitely time we take our relationship to the next logical step. I just hope she agrees.

“If I had my way, you’d be in my bed all day.”

She rolls her eyes but is still grinning.

I pull her in for a hug and she melts against me. I am tempted to grind my cock into her soft belly, to show her that I’m being serious, but I refrain. I have something serious to talk to her about and being a vulgar bastard right now probably wouldn’t set things up right.

“There’s something I want to show you.” I just say the words, because if I didn’t I’d be a fucking wimp.

She looks hesitant at first. “Should I be afraid?” she asks, cocking her eyebrow in question.

“Maybe?” I say seriously because the truth is I have no idea how she’ll react once she sees the place.

We’re in the truck and headed to the property in a matter of minutes. I’m too excited, and if I’m being honest, worrying about what she’ll say. If she tries to pull away from me, I’m going to have to show her that we’re meant to be together. I just hope I don’t have to show her that I can go slower if that’s what she needs. I don’t fucking want to go slow. I want her locked up tight, tied to me for the rest of our lives.

Ten minutes later I’m pulling up to the two-story log cabin. It only has a couple acres of property, but it’s thick in the woods, a little creek is a short walk away, and the mountains are our backyard.

I cut the engine and climb out, walking over to her side and helping her out before she can do it herself.

“Where are we?” she asks as she stares up at the cabin.

I don’t say anything as I take her hand and lead her up the steps of the porch. I pull out the key I just got today when I closed on the paperwork, and can’t stop myself from grinning at her.

I push the door open and before she can move, lift her up in my arms and carry her over the threshold. She squeals, her fingers biting into me, as if she’s afraid she will fall.

“Michael, what on earth is going on?” she asks, and I can’t stop my grin.

I let her slide to the floor, slowly, as she looks around at our new house. I can’t help but wonder what she’s thinking. I love it, but there’s a chance she won’t. It’s bare, as a new house usually is, void of furniture, décor, and a woman’s touch.

I stare at her the whole time, watch as she walks around the kitchen, smoothing her hands over the granite top of the island, then moving into the living room and touching the hand carved fireplace mantle.

For five minutes, all I do is watch her, mesmerized by her movements, by the amazement I see on her face. She checks out the loft, where the master bedroom is, then comes back down and looks at the other bedrooms on the lower level. Finally, she stops and faces me.

“You bought this place, didn’t you?”

I don’t answer right away, but my grin is response enough. “I bought this place for us.” She moves right up to me, only a foot away now, her eyes wide.

“For us?” she whispers.

I nod. “I figure when we’re married and start having babies we’ll need more room than either of our one-bedroom places.” I cup her cheek, smoothing my thumb under her eye. “I also figure we need to have room if your brother wants to come for a visit.”

I can see she’s about to cry after I say that, knowing she’s shocked but happy. It’s been three months since her brother went in for rehab, and it’s the first time he’s stayed the whole time, and he is still currently sober. He is currently living in a group home facility that will further help his sobriety. I know this makes Cassie happy and hopeful, and when she’s happy so am I.

I pull her to my body, curl my hand around her nape, and lean down to kiss her. I don’t want her crying, even if it’s because she’s overcome with elation. Moving forward with her in my arms, the only reason I stop is because the wall is now pressed to her back.

The kiss starts slow and sweet but soon turns heated and heavy. She breaks away and looks up at me, her pupils dilated, her need clear.

“Fuck me,” she whispers.
