I narrowed my eyes and pulled out into the road.
Chapter Five
Cain
The moment she passed the town line, I pulled out to ride in front of her. Kelly didn’t miss a beat as two of my guys brought up the rear. I was frowning, confused and irritated by her actions.
She’d tried to dodge me by taking an alternate route. I would have to put my foot down about that. Everything I did was for her own good. It was about time she recognized that. She was my woman. She was going to have to learn to obey me.
My focus on the road was laser sharp, but it didn’t stop the warm feeling of anticipation in my body. I might be annoyed with her, but that didn’t even put a dent in my excitement to finally get my hands on her hot little body. I had to use all my control not to get ahead of myself and imagine all the filthy things I was going to do when we were finally alone.
Alone. In a room. With a big ass bed.
More importantly, the killer would never find us here. Not unless he had GPS on her car like I did. I’d almost laughed when I found the unit Connor had put there. I hid mine way better than that fucker though.
I’d known it was Con’s on sight because it was government-issue. And wasn’t it just like him to put a tracker on his little sister’s car? Only in this case, I agreed with him for being a controlling bastard.
I was a controlling bastard when it came to her too.
Kelly needed protecting. She was a sweet, innocent girl, but she was also extremely unpredictable. Flighty, even.
Damned if I didn’t find that adorable about her.
Adorable and frustrating as hell. I groaned as she made my life difficult for the next fifteen minutes. The woman needed a tight leash! She was damn-near impossible to track and that meant it was that much harder to protect her.
She took at least three unapproved turns before she pulled into the hotel. I parked my bike around the back, and my guys parked on either side, settling in for the night.
“You don’t have to stay.”
Hunter and Vice just sat there, looking at me.
“I might be all night.”
Hunter cocked an eyebrow, saying nothing. Vice just grinned. I shook my head and cut around the side of the hotel. I stopped, turning in a slow circle.
Kelly was not where I’d told her to wait.
Just inside the doors, I said. Stay visible and in bright light, I said. Wait for me, I said.
I had been extremely fucking specific.
She had done none of those things. I was about to panic when my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out and almost sagged in relief. It was Kelly. And, from the sound of it, she was not too happy with me.
A hotel, huh? You must be pretty sure of yourself.
I’ve waited long enough. So have you.
Silence. Then my phone buzzed in my hand.
It’s not going to be that easy, Cain.
Where are you?
I’m at the bar, drinking a glass of the most expensive champagne they have. I’ll be sure to charge it to your room.
I smirked. Of course she was. The woman was not a wilting flower, that’s for sure. Well, at least she was in public, like I’d asked. So she’d sort of followed my instructions. I was getting soft and it was her fault. In the Corps, I would have had someone’s ass for disobeying me, especially when the risk level was so high.
I strode into the fancy as fuck hotel lobby, fully intending to bring her up to the very expensive room I’d rented and bury myself in her for the next twelve hours or so. The bar was in the back of the place. I stopped in the doorway, having trouble believing my eyes.
Kelly was sitting at the bar, looking like a femme fatale. There were three men leaning on the bar and trying to talk to her.
Three.
“For the love of Christ . . .” I muttered to myself.
Kelly smiled faintly when she saw me and tossed her head. The guy next to her said something, and she smiled at him, making my vision go red. She wasn’t flirting but she wasn’t exactly discouraging them either.
I dug my nails into my palms to stop myself from tearing the guy’s head off.
It took about ten seconds for the first guy to notice me. He cleared his throat and looked around nervously. Then player number two caught sight of me, standing a few feet away and using my eyes to turn them all to cinders. The third guy had his back to me. He only noticed after the first two had vacated the area.
Kelly looked up at me innocently after her admirers had all beat a hasty retreat.
