That had us in fits for a while. The seats around us started to fill in. Kaylie and Janet were with Kirsten upstairs, helping her and Jacey get ready. Becks and Whiskey took seats next to us with their two tiny rug rats.
I cooed at Jesse and Becks offered to let me hold him. He was too cute. Such a handsome little man. I rested him on my belly, which he seemed to love. Whiskey slipped away and we knew time was getting close. I watched as Dev, Jack, Donnie, Mac, Callaway, Drake and Whiskey led the procession down the dock. I wondered for a minute if it would tip over with all those big guys on it.
I snickered a little, thinking all those muscle men lined up like that looked like they were in an all male revue. Especially since I wasn’t used to seeing them in suit jackets, or anything other than leather.
Preacher was the last to make it to the end of the dock before the music started.
“Are you allowed to have that many best men?”
Sally and I started giggling again. The baby hormones were making us punch drunk. We whispered to each other that we had to pee again as Lucky took his place. Jack walked back down the aisle and the flower girls came out. Kirsten’s little girl Jacey led the pack, followed by Jack and Janet’s oldest two girls. None of the littler kids were up there because of the dock. I sighed wistfully as they tossed flower petals on the deck and down the aisle.
I turned my head as Jack reappeared with Kirsten. I sighed again. She really was exceptionally pretty. Lucky was right, she did look like an angel. Even in a borrowed, last-minute, wedding dress.
The sky started turning colors at that exact moment. Almost like God was using a paintbrush to add to the celebration. I knew without a doubt that I was going to ugly cry. Never mind the lady hormones, the wedding was just too beautiful.
I held Becky’s little baby boy tight as my tears started to fall.
Chapter 37
Lucky
Deep breaths, Lucky. Game time. Let’s do this.
I was waiting nervously by Preacher as the flower girls came out of the house. I was giving Jacey an encouraging smile when her mother appeared behind her. My smile faded as I stared at her in awe. Time itself seemed to stop as my Angel walked down the aisle towards me, her dainty arm resting over Jack’s giant burly one.
Nobody should be that beautiful.
Nobody else could.
She seemed to float, literally float, as she walked serenely towards me. The simple white dress she wore had short sleeves and a tiered skirt with long ruffles that seemed to flutter around her as she walked. Her long, beautiful hair fanned out around her, gently bouncing in graceful waves.
And her face, her beautiful face, was shining with love and light.
I definitely did not deserve this woman.
I was going to marry her anyway.
Jack handed her off to me and stepped away. I felt the dock move beneath me slightly as he stood with the rest of my brothers. I could not tear my eyes off my Angel. She was mine at last.
She was truly mine.
As soon as Preacher got around to saying the words.
Instead he leaned over to me and said ‘seriously?’ loud enough for the crowd to hear.
Everyone laughed as he continued.
“How the hell did a grunt like you end up with this glorious woman?” Kirsten looked shocked at his words. He gave her a sly wink. “You, my lovely girl, are far too good for this jag off. Are you absolutely sure you want me to go through with the ceremony?”
Bless her heart, my Angel said yes.
Preacher gave a long suffering sigh and raised his eyes to the sky, as if to question God himself. I wasn’t offended though. He was right. It wasn’t just me. She was too good for any man on earth. I was just going to have to take the job anyway and do everything I could to make her happy.
I was a lucky son of a bitch.
Preacher echoed my thoughts a moment later.
“Good evening and welcome. We are gathered here today to join in holy matrimony this gloriously beautiful woman and this unworthy son of a bitch, who does more than live up to his name.” He cast me a disparaging look. “For some reason, this obviously charitable woman has decided to tie her life to this delinquent.”
Jacey giggled and I gave her a quick smile. My Angel still looked shocked but she may have been starting to get the joke. We were bikers. We didn’t do traditional weddings. We liked our ceremonies salty and honest. That’s why Preacher was in high demand up and down the West Coast. Plus, he didn’t mind getting paid in tequila.
