Luck Of The Devil (Devil's Riders 6) - Page 71

He opened the second window and looked out at the lake.

“Everyone is gone.”

“It’s a good thing too,” I giggled.

“Why?”

“Because you sounded like a wildebeest.”

He grabbed at me, tugging the covers away and tickling my ribs. I squealed and tried to get away, but he held me firmly in place.

“Oh, I did, did I?”

“Yes!”

I was still gasping for air when he hoisted me up and carried me to the shower. We rinsed quickly and wrapped ourselves in the giant fluffy Mr. and Mrs. robes Janet had gotten us as wedding gifts. We padded barefoot to the kitchen to find all kinds of leftovers had been stashed away for us. We sat on the floor by the gas fireplace and had a midnight picnic, eating with our fingers and drinking champagne.

We made love again, on a blanket on the floor, sticky fingers and all. Lucky carried me up the staircase, and put me to bed. I woke before dawn to find us entangled with the sheets, his thick leg covering mine and his arms wrapped around me.

He woke me up again a few hours later with his hands and lips and cock. It was an hour later when he finally rose, and pulled on some jeans and a button down. He pressed a kiss to my forehead.

“Get some rest.”

“Where are you going?”

“To check on the site.”

“They are working already?”

“Today is the start date. They are still waiting on some permits, but they got a couple of things rushed, like the foundation.”

“But… the plans were just drawn up a few days ago. How did they do that so fast?”

He winked.

“It pays to have friends in high places. And the club has lots of friends.”

I drifted off once he was gone and slept another hour or so. When I finally woke, I stretched and took a long, hot shower. I felt sore and heavy, but good. My muscles were relaxed in a way I hadn’t experienced since running track in high school. And my heart was full.

I pulled on my favorite jeans and a t-shirt and headed downstairs to make coffee and see if we had any eggs.

I was sipping a hot cup of coffee and planning a big breakfast when I heard something outside. I assumed it was Lucky and opened the door with a big smile. I froze, confronted by the large object on the painted wood floor of the porch.

A basket. A gift basket.

But it was massive. It was sitting just outside the front door. Whoever left it there had come and gone without a word. They’d been just on the other side of the door from me. I was alone here. Lucky would never had made it back in time.

It wasn’t just the sudden appearance of the basket that had my heart beating like a jackhammer. It was what was in the basket that had me turning white and feeling woozy.

My mind started racing wildly as I stared at it. It was all Italian delicacies. Good stuff, too. Tins and sausages and cheeses and several bottles of wine. Everything was elegant and expensive looking. I forced myself to bend down and pick up the envelope sitting on top.

I closed my eyes and opened it.

Best of luck in your marriage. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to ask. That includes kicking your husband’s ass.

-V & T

I knew it was Vincent and Tony. They didn’t need to sign their own names. In fact, I had a feeling they never did, because they were under Federal investigation almost constantly and had been since turning eighteen.

But it wasn’t the card that made me feel woozy on my feet.

Inside the envelope was a large sum of money. I had a feeling I knew how much, down to the dollar. I had a feeling it was thirty thousand dollars.

I fainted.

Chapter 41

Lucky

I was whistling as I came back from meeting with Drake’s crew. They were creating a driveway today by cutting down tress and bushes. They staked it out and compressed the dirt. Then they would come back with gravel and asphalt. It was a long ass distance to the main road, but thankfully I was getting the supplies at cost.

All the building supplies.

The other half of the crew was framing out where the foundation would be poured. They would need to drive steel poles into the bedrock in several places before the cement trucks came later in the week.

We would also reinforce the path that wound around the lake with asphalt or something more permanent, and extend it to go beyond our new site. In fact, we were thinking about creating a safe path the whole way around the lake to other possible locations for the rest of the guys to build cabins.

Of course, our place was going to be a bit spiffier than the average cabin.
