“You minx,” I growled when I was fully seated inside her. “That’s not what I meant.”
She gave me a breathy, smug little smile.
“I know.”
Then she wrapped her curvy legs around me and flexed her hips. I was lost. I was always lost when it came to Melissa.
I rode her at a breakneck, desperate pace. She urged me on, her nails scraping my back, her hips rising to match my tempo. And when she exploded with a series of soft cries, I followed her there, too.
I fell asleep still inside her, waking a little while later to make love to her again and again until around dawn. I was finally able to take my time and make her squeal for me.
We fell into an exhausted slumber just before the sun came up. The camper might be temporary, but this thing between us was not.
We were a pair. Bonded. And soon, she would be mine in every single way.
We were forever.
Chapter Fifty-Two
Melissa
Becky carefully carried the precious package into Kaylee and Devlin's cabin at the lake. I watched nervously as everyone buzzed around me. It was happening.
Today, I was getting married.
It didn't seem real. Not until the exact moment when I saw the dress. Becky carried it into one of the bedrooms and hung it over the back of the door. I followed her, watching breathlessly as she unzipped the garment bag. We've had fittings for two weeks. Two weeks to plan a wedding. Of course, I hadn't had very much to do with it.
My new family, my sisters, had taken care of pretty much everything.
"Ohh," we all collectively gasped as the dress was revealed. Becky had painstakingly altered my mom's wedding dress. She had skillfully modernized it by taking away the bell sleeves and some of the lace. But it was still definitely the same dress.
"It's like she's here with me," I breathed reverently.
Kaylie slipped her arms around me in a hug. Pretty soon, I was surrounded by all the girls squeezing me. I couldn't help it. I started to cry.
"That's it, girl," Janet said. "Get it out now."
"Because once we apply your makeup, there is no crying allowed!" Sally said with a chuckle.
We heard voices outside and the girls ran to look at the window. They all exchanged a glance.
“Oh, boy, here we go,” Janet said.
"He's here." Suzannah smirked.
"Who?" I asked, leaning to look out the window. A man was climbing off a massive motorcycle. He was big and tall like the rest of the guys. But he had long white hair. He was older, but he looked like a model.
"You're lucky Preacher is married now. Otherwise, he would've definitely kissed you," Molly said with a chuckle.
“Kissed me?” I asked, momentarily distracted from the events of the day. “Like a peck?”
“Definitely not a peck. Just ask Suzannah,” Janet said, arching her perfectly groomed eyebrow.
“Well, he did go a bit overboard. With a lot of us.”
“Wait, he laid one on you?” I asked, totally shocked.
“He considered it his right to kiss the bride,” Angel said with a chortle. “And his duty to fuck with the guys. Never mind the fact that he’s usually wasted by the time the ceremony starts.”
“Why is he marrying us again?” I said worriedly.
“Its tradition. And he’s one of the best guys alive. He was just a little bit . . . wild, back in the day,” Kaylie said as her shoulders began to shake. Her newborn was sleeping peacefully in a Moses basket on the couch. I didn’t know how she looked so beautiful with a two-week-old and another little one, but she did.
“Understatement. He was worse than Callaway and Lucky put together!” Becky said, laughing her ass off.
“But he’s married now. Cynthia tamed his ass right quick,” Janet said approvingly. “Great girl.”
I knew if Janet liked her, she was a good egg. She was an astute judge of character. She didn’t give an inch unless someone deserved it. She was tough as nails, but it made her friendship mean even more to me.
“We’d better get a move on before Preacher gets too shellacked to perform the ceremony,” Kaylie said. “He gets paid in tequila,” she added helpfully.
“Oh, my God, I’m getting married,” I said stupidly, my eyes wide. I had totally forgotten for a second.
“Yes, you are. Now, hop to it,” Becky said, clapping her hands together. She was almost as bossy as Janet. But they were both so loving and supportive, it kind of took my breath away.
“Okay. Let’s do this.” I nodded and the ladies got to work. I was already showered, so Sally misted my hair and started blow-drying it with a round brush. She tugged hard and muttered ‘sorry’, but I didn’t complain.
Becky grinned and said, “Beauty is pain, Highness,” riffing on the line from her favorite movie, The Princess Bride.
We all knew how much she loved it because she quoted it all the time! I had plans to make them all watch The Thorn Birds one day too. Actually, watching the whole thing would take an entire weekend! But that was the kind of things the girls did together.
