Touched By The Devil (Devil's Riders 7)

“That’s a very good idea,” Dev said. “But don’t forget, you have made a very angry, very injured enemy. Who knows what he will do? This isn’t over.”
I realized I had to make a call as soon as we were done. I texted Preacher, asking for a contact number. Things were real fucking serious now that someone had taken out a hit on my woman. It didn’t matter if it wasn’t a death hit. It would be dealt with in the harshest way possible.
It was time to pull in our brother club from upstate, the Untouchables. It was time to call Cain.
Chapter 34
Cain
“You’re on speakerphone.” I nodded to Trace, Vice, and Hunter. We were talking to another club further down the coast, the Devil’s Riders. We were connected and on good terms, though not formally. “Go ahead.”
We listed as Devlin filled us in on the situation. Mac was Donahue’s cousin and a part of their inner circle. He and his woman were in danger.
I would have helped them even if they weren’t part of an MC we were connected with. I had a sliding scale and an open-door policy when it came to people who needed my help. I was pickier when it came to high-end clients. I overcharged high-rollers. I undercharged ordinary folk, especially when women and children were in danger.
“We can set up cameras around all three properties. Regular drone passes. I assume your guys can do some of the heavy lifting with bodyguard duties?”
“Yeah, we’re on top of that.”
“Good,” I said, nodding to my guys. “Hunter and Vice can go down there for the duration. Anyone have a place for them to crash?”
“They can stay in the cabin.”
“Great,” I said, then looked at Trace. His fingers were already flying over the keyboard. “We’ll get on his bank accounts, internet, and phone and look for anything we can pass on to the Feds.”
“You can do that?”
“I have a contact there. We will get him out of commission, one way or the other. If we go the other route, it’s a bit more complicated.”
I didn’t have an issue with ending someone. But since it was his woman who was in danger, I had a feeling Mac would want to do it himself. And we’d learned that there were other, equally satisfying ways to take someone down.
“Good. Thank you, man.”
“You got it.” I ended the call and looked at the guys. “You guys ready to head down there?”
Hunter and Vice nodded. Neither were married or even dating. They were my number-one guys, and it would hurt to lose them, even for a couple of weeks. But only the best would do for Devlin and his crew.
“Trace, get something on that lawyer. We are going to take him down, not just neutralize him.”
“Search and destroy. Got it.”
I slapped their shoulders and headed out. I had to get home to see my woman. She was pregnant again and cranky about it. She had put her foot down about having another baby so soon, but I had talked her into it. It had happened during one of our longest sessions yet. Pleasurable for me, frustrating for her. And in the end, I had gotten what I wanted.
I may have kept her on the edge until she said yes. She would be happy about it, eventually, I knew, just not during the first trimester while she was throwing up every couple of hours.
She was in the morning sickness phase, and this time was worst than the last, so she was not happy and rightfully blaming me for her nonstop puking.
I stopped by the store for ginger tea and some vanilla coconut milk ice cream. I grabbed a bouquet of wildflowers too. My lady deserved the best, and I would make sure she got it. When I got in, she was in the bathroom, hunched over the toilet.
“Shit, again?”
She glared at me over her shoulder.
“This is all your fault,” she said before leaning back over the toilet. I knelt behind her and rubbed my hand over her back. Then I got a fresh washcloth and ran it under the cold water.
“Here,” I said, handing it to her when she was done hurling.
She patted her mouth with one side and then wiped her face with the other. She did not thank me. She was still glaring when I helped her to her feet.
“All done.”
“For now,” she grumbled. I lifted her carefully and carried her to her favorite seat in the house. It was a chaise lounge in the living room. It was right next to the gas fireplace and angled toward the front window so she could look out. I often found her reading in that spot when she had a quiet moment. I laid her down gently and pulled a throw blanket over her legs. I turned on the gas fireplace and went to put the flowers in water.
