The Taker
“What kind of incompetent fools are you? How could you let that bitch escape after all the trouble I went through? Haven’t I paid you enough?” I paced the room back and forth as my fury grew.
If I stood in front of them any longer I just might kill them before their time and I was in no way prepared for the cleanup. It figures! I’ve never felt more like killing than at this very moment. Well, not exactly but close.
I turned back with a glare and watched them step back out of the way of my wrath. Usually that would appease me some, but it was going to take a hell of a lot more than that this time around. They’d let my prey go, and at such a time as this. Unacceptable.
“And can you please tell me why the fuck you came here? What if someone saw you? Do you know what I had to do because of your fuck up?” I stopped talking before I gave away too much.
For two-years I’ve been able to control things my way. I’ve been able to keep the two sides of my life from meeting, never making a misstep, nothing over lapping; and now this!
Now these incompetent fools had gone and screwed up my plans, just when the prize was within my reach. The frustration was enough to kill me.
I glowered even harder and they looked down at the floor, wringing their stupid hands like that was going to help. “You still haven’t told me how she got away. If you’d done what I told you to there’s no way this could’ve happened.”
It’s true; they’ve had the same routine for two years. How fucking hard could it be? And why now? Why when things were coming to a head, when it was time for the grand finale? Just when everything I wanted was within my reach.
This is what happens when you have others do shit for you. But it would’ve been impossible for me to handle everything on my own and these two had helped me out in the past so I saw no need to worry.
Of course the little piddly shit they’d done in the past was nothing as major as this last job, but they’d done okay for the past two years so there was no way I could’ve known that they’d mess up so fucking royally.
“Answer me damn you.” I took a step towards them and watched them cower in fear. I gave serious thought to ending them here and now before this cluster fuck got anymore out of hand, but common sense prevailed.
“We don’t know how she escaped. I’m sure we had her chains locked and everything. We were out back trying to decide how to get rid of her once you gave the order but when we got back inside the door was wide open and she was gone.”
The older woman rushed out an answer while her lily livered husband shook like an aspen in the wind. I always knew she was the gutsier of the two, even though he’s the more cruel one.
My hand itched to slap his face, but there was no point in muddying the waters until everything was done. Just a few more days to clean up this mess and I’ll take joy in ending both their worthless lives.
“I even went into the woods to track her but she was nowhere to be found…”
“Do you think I want to hear this? Lucky for me she hasn’t shown up here, but where else will she go?”
That was my big worry, that she’d find her way back here somehow. For convenience sake I hadn’t sent her too far away to be kept, but now I’m regretting that mistake. At the time it was the only answer. The only way to keep too many people from asking questions.
“Sooner or later she’s going to make her way back here. That drug we’ve been feeding her only last as long as she’s taking it. In a few days the affects will wear off and her memory will come back…”
I looked down at the nails that I’d bitten to the quick, a nervous habit I’ve had since childhood. “You shouldn’t have come here, the message you sent me was enough. I already took action once I received it…”
“We’re here because we want to know what you want us to do next. We can’t go back to the cabin. Like you said the drug will wear off soon and she might lead the cops back there…”
“Burn it to the ground you fools.” My two accomplices looked at each other at my outburst.
“But if we do that, wouldn’t that attract attention? The place is so close to the government land not to mention the highway isn’t that far away. Someone is bound to see the smoke…
