“The Cornish hens just came out the oven and everything else is ready and hot.”
“Thanks mom!” Kat kissed her cheek and made the rounds around the room to Tina and Char.
“It was a good day wasn’t it?” Here we go with her hoodoo shit.
“Yes it was, where are my kids?”
“The twins and Caleb are in their rooms, tomorrow is a school day did you forget? Caitlin must’ve gone up as well since I haven’t seen her in a while and of course Cody and the triplets are down for the night. As to the babies, they were perfect little angels. They’re in the den in their carriers, all fast asleep.” Mom looked like she was toked.
“We’ll head on over, you boys know how to get to the house.”
“Oh by the way mom, I forgot to tell you since everything got so chaotic, they’re staying the whole week.”
“Not a problem. Daniel you’ll have to go to the store, we’re gonna need more…”
“Mom, mom, mom, they’re not moving in, Kat and I will take care of their food.”
“I don’t see why everyone can’t come over to our house some evenings.” Like she thinks this is a camping trip. “Fine mom!”
She walked around the room kissing everyone and I sent Mengele to bed since she had school in the morning. Everyone got down to eating and I headed for the stairs to go check on my kids while Kat took care of our guests.
I hit the bottom stair before I realized someone was sitting in the living room in the dark. “Caitiebear? What’s wrong, why are you sitting here in the dark like this?” I hit the light and saw tears, then I saw red. “What happened?” She flew up from the chair and into my arms, crying and blubbering.
“Talk slowly baby, I can’t hear you. Did you and Todd have a fight?” She nodded against my chest. That little shit! Is that how he’s gonna play this? Day one and he’s already making my little girl cry? We’ll just see about this.
“Wait here!”
“No daddy.” She tried tugging on my arm and ended up following me up the stairs to the guestroom where the boy had the door locked. He opened it with a bored look on his face until he saw me.
“Sir, you’re home, I didn’t hear you come in. What did they have, a boy or a girl?”
“Forget that, my kid’s crying, explain yourself.” I was trying to be fair. The boy hasn’t shown himself to be a complete ass so he must have good reason for this shit. He has to know that I’d have no problem ending his ass and burying him in my backyard for fucking with my kid.
“It’s nothing.” He said and Caitlin sniffled and looked down at the floor.
“Nothing? You made her cry in my house.”
“She scared me half to death.” He damn near shouted the house down and it was then I realized that that look of boredom was the look of a man hanging on by a thread.
“How, what did she do?”
“Caitie stop crying.” He spoke to her like I wasn’t there. “Tell your father what you did.”
“Daddy, I…” She just started crying harder.
“She pulled out of your garage doing ninety and drove around the block unsupervised.”
He gritted the words out and I had to admit once I got the gist of it that I would’ve been mad too. “You two have a fight or something? Why’d she do that?”
“Because she’s your daughter, pigheaded and stubborn. I’m tired, I’m going to bed. I’ll be out of your hair tomorrow sir.”
“Todd!” She grabbed onto his arm bawling. Any second now she was gonna wake up the kids.
“You two take this to the backyard and fix it. Caitie you have school tomorrow, get it together. You’ve got half an hour.” I turned and left them standing there with the boy looking like he wanted no part of her,
I know how he feels, her mother has taken me there more than once. Serves his ass right. That’s what he wanted, that’s what he gets. I hope they don’t expect me to play referee between the two of them because that shit is dead.
Todd
Dammit, I didn’t expect her dad to get involved I was just trying to teach her a lesson. She’d scared me half to death with her stunt and I’m not about to let tears sway me. I start that shit now and it’ll never end. She’s already got me wrapped around her finger, I give in any more and she’d take my balls and stash them in her purse.
We headed outside to the swing like her dad had ordered but I was still not ready to talk. I sat and looked straight ahead. Until she realizes that she needs to apologize I’m not saying shit. Anymore of that ‘I don’t know why you’re mad’ shit and swear to fuck I’ll get up and walk away.
