I gritted my teeth and ignored her sniffling shit, damn female. How the heck could someone change this much in just a few short days? Where is my sweet little angel who never spoke above a whisper and never once disagreed with me? Of course I never gave her shit to disagree with but still.
“I’m sorry!” Shit!
“What’re you sorry for?”
“I’m sorry that I got mad and drove away like that, please don’t be mad at me anymore.” I let her sweat for a few seconds more before raising my arm for her to come under.
“Next time, I’ll spank your ass red. You got off lucky because we’re in your parents’ house, but don’t you ever try that shit again. If we lived away from here I’d have taken the damn keys for a month, so just remember that the next time you decide to act out.”
Her father kept her spoilt ass caged and cosseted and now it looks like I’m gonna be dealing with the fallout. She got closer with her head on my chest and sniffled. I know that was supposed to get my sympathy but no way am I giving in that easy.
She forgets that I know her, that I’ve been there with her these last four years, going through the same restrictions as she. If I can calm my ass down and wait, then so can she. I’m trying to do this shit right. We’re not out of the water yet, the man was just about to throw me off the roof for making her cry. Does she really think we’re in the clear here?
Until I get her on that campus with me four months from now, no scratch that, until I put my ring on her finger, we won’t be anywhere near clear. “You’re not to get in that car again without me there. You go above sixty and I don’t care what anyone says, I’ll throw the keys in the damn lake.”
LYON
“Colton, come away from there, what’re you doing?” This one was about to have a hissy fit.
“This is my house, my window, I can do what I want.”
“Stop spying on those kids.”
“I’m not spying, that punk made my kid cry, I’m just making sure he handles that shit right.”
Actually I was making sure the boy knows what he’s doing, that way I don’t have to step in and discipline her daughter for doing some shit she knows she’s not supposed to do.
I closed the window and headed back to the dining room where the others were still eating. “So, Lyon, prom, any ideas on how we’re handling that yet?” Zak forked another piece of meat into his mouth.
“What do you mean? I’m sure her mother had the limo picked out before I said yes.”
“Not that. Are we putting the fear of Zeus in the boy before they leave the house?”
“I don’t think it would work, he’s damn near one of us now.”
“You sit this one out, we’ll take point.”
“Oh no, please don’t… Colt.” My wife started her whining shit.
“Go for it.” The SEALs were only too happy to get the go ahead. “I’m pretty sure Jared might want in on that, not to mention Mallory, she’s their Goddaughter, I think they’ve been practicing that shit for a while now.”
“The more the merrier. Let’s see what he’s made of.”
I could tell from the way the women had their faces set up that they were not pleased. Nosy fucks!
“Kat, you’re not allowed to say anything to the boy or Caitiebear about this.” She flounced her ass to the sink with her empty plate while the rest of her posse fumed. I love this shit.
TODD
“We should go inside now. It’s getting late and you have school tomorrow.”
“I don’t want to go, I’m gonna miss you. You’ll probably be gone when I get back tomorrow since the cleaners are coming.”
“I’m just around the corner babe, I’ll see you when you get home. Now give me a kiss and go on inside.” She turned up her face and I kissed her lips softly, gently, not like the kisses we shared earlier, this one was to fill the breech, to show her that I forgave her. Nothing more.
“Aren’t you coming?”
“In a minute.” There’s something I needed to ask her dad before I go up. I listened to the others filing out of the house and waited until the cars drove away before heading inside. “Mr. Lyon, sir, a minute?” I caught him on the bottom stair.
“What’s up kid? You make nice to my daughter?”
“She apologized so we’re fine.” I ignored his raised brow. I don’t see why I should make nice to her since she’s the one that fucked up, but as her dad I can see where he might think differently. Too bad! I’m taking all the leaves from his playbook.
