“Eh, is somebody gonna tell me what’s going on here? Where’s Poppy, where’s Roberto, Al?”
“Pop, didn’t you see those guys like a week ago? Chill, we’re not here for that.”
“Wait a minute, you saw the hospice rejects a week ago? What for?”
“Old friends, catching up, no biggie.” He chewed on the unlit cigar in his mouth and I didn’t trust his old ass one fuck.
Flanagan’s wife chose that moment to take me up on my offer to head to the den. “Mrs. Lyon you have a beautiful home, I’d love to see the den.”
“Mouth, get back here.”
“Shane, we’re in the midst of company, anything you have to say can be discussed when we get back home.” I have no idea what’s going on in my house right now.
“Boy when are you gonna learn some patience. You never want her involved but you’re always doing shit in front of her.”
“I wanna know what you and those three fucks were up to last week.”
“That’s not why we’re here. Go up the stairs and get those two goons off this man’s driveway before the neighbors get nervous and call the heat.”
“Shit, I forgot about Mikey and Tony. Do you mind?” He asked me before moving to the door.
“The more the merrier.” He whistled and they came waltzing into my house. Oh yeah, they’re the real deal alright. The fuck did Mengele get me into.
We started to head up and his wife called out. “Shane, just a second.” Why the hell was she acting like he was going off to war? She leaned into him and whispered something in his ear before turning and walking away again. He just shook his head and continued on up the stairs.
MOUTH
“So, is it always like this? They disappear up the stairs and leave you ladies down here?” They all looked around at each other.
“Isn’t it that way at your house?” One of the women Mrs. Lyon had just introduced me to spoke up. I wasn’t ready to remember their names because I wasn’t sure how this thing was gonna go yet. “Nope, they can try.”
I’d already ascertained that the house was clear for lack of a better word. There were more live bodies here than the freaking MET but I didn’t sense that mob boy and I were in any danger. Add the fact that the Mallory boys were here and that brings it down to a danger level of point zero-zero five. But that Lyon guy is…something. I know kill lights when I see them.
“Oh dear I’m so sorry, I didn’t notice that you were wearing an aid, are we being too loud.”
“Oh no you’re fine.” I fiddled with my ‘hearing aid’ and heard the men’s voice come through loud and clear. Good, now I can listen to Shane in one ear and these chicks in the other.
He must be really flustered if he doesn’t realize that I’d planted something on him. I was all but jumping for joy at the fact that I’d finally got one over on him. “So, your Lily, she’s into history I hear….”
LYON
I lead Flanagan and the Mallorys into the office where all the others were waiting. Only Jared was here from my crew because somebody needed to run the shop, and he’d bitch if I left him out. Flanagan didn’t seem too flustered walking into the room with about fifteen-sixteen men. That could be because half of them had babies strapped onto their chest.
There was more than enough room for them to join the fray and we got down to business after old man Mallory got through saying hello to his new friends. “So, thanks for that down there, I don’t like my wife knowing about this shit.”
“No problem, I understand.”
“Right, the shit our daughters have been up to. In a nutshell, the men in this room have been trying to track down a human trafficking ring. Your daughter, Lily is it, and mine, along with another little girl named Nia have somehow got ahold of that info and worked it behind the scenes.”
“I don’t follow, how did they get their hands on the info?”
“Nia, is a computer scientist, apparently she knows her way around computers and spyware.”
“I see, Tony, Mikey, when we get home check the computers in the house.” They grunted some shit.
“Go on!”
I pretty much filled him in on what we had so far. “So you see, your daughter is the one who found the masterminds, we just need to figure out where they are. The girls seem to think one of the offshoots are nearby, but we can’t get a bead on them. And that’s pretty much it. As far as I know, your kid’s not in any real danger since Nia put up firewalls or some shit so no one can be lead back to them.”
